* * * "Seguchi."

Eiri stood in the doorway, arms crossed in front of his chest with a disgruntled look on his face. His gaze was locked firmly on the low table in the middle of the room where its occupants, his sister and brother-in-law, were sitting. They seemed to be having a late night dinner.

"Hello, Eiri-san~!" Tohma's tone was light and airy as usual, and Eiri was unsurprised when a smile 'graced' his brother-in-law's features. "I didn't expect to see you here."

"I didn't expect to see you here. This is Kyoto."

Tohma shrugged his shoulders and lifted a teacup in front of his face, hiding his mouth-hiding the smile Eiri knew would still be there. "I could say the same to you," he said simply and took a sip.

Eiri glanced at his sister, who remained silent and focused on the remains of her dinner. Oh, so that's how that bastard knew. Mika told him, and Tohma had found that it suited himself to come along to Kyoto to visit. Too bad for Seguchi, he thought. If Tohma wanted to squeeze his way into Eiri's life at every turn, then he would have to pay the consequences. And Eiri would make sure there were many.

With a smirk on his face, he took a seat next to his sister and across from Tohma. "Seguchi, did you already tell her the news?"

The dumbfounded face on Tohma's face was priceless; Eiri could see how unsure Tohma was and it was almost tantalizing.

"News?" Mika echoed.

"About him and I."

"You and I?" Tohma was still holding the tea up in front of his face, hiding his mouth. Eiri didn't see the point in that when Tohma's eyes could give him away. At least if you knew the real man behind those eyes.

"Yeah." Eiri's smirk grew and he leaned forward, resting his elbows in the table. "You didn't tell my sister?"

"Tell me what?" Mika's voice shook with irritation.

"The things Seguchi said last night." He leaned closer to his sister, his mouth next to her ear. "The things he made me say," he whispered, his voice low with a hurt quality to it.

Eiri didn't care that his dialogue sounded like something pulled out of one of his romance novels. He got the reaction he wanted: two horrified expressions. He couldn't tell which one was more severe-looking. Probably Mika's.

Mika instantly rounded on her husband. "Tohma." Her eyes were narrowed and her fists were curled into fists. Eiri kicked back, prepared to watch the show.

"Mika-san, honestly, I have no idea what-"

"-what is he talking about, Tohma?"

"I don't know!"

"Cut the crap!"

Tohma sat there silently, wearing a mask of calmness. But Eiri could practically feel his brother-in-law's racing heart. Those masks didn't fool him anymore.

Eiri decided to egg his sister on a little. "It was traumatizing," he said. "He's always hanging around me and holding onto me like I'm his possession, but last night he went too far. I had to shower three times to make myself feel clean enough for bed." He paused briefly. "And the words still haven't left my head."

"Eiri-san!" Tohma brought the tea cup back to the table so hard it cracked. He stared hard at Eiri, who stared back, unperturbed. "That isn't true! I didn't even see you last night."

Mika had heard enough. She rose from the table, leaving her unfinished meal, and stalked like a panther in pursuit to the coat rack. She rummaged through the long black coat there-probably Tohma's-and fished out a keyring with a single key hooked onto it.

"I've heard enough." She pulled her own red coat off the hook and angrily stuffed herself into it. "I thought you'd grown up a little, but this is too much! You're going to be a father soon, but you're sure as hell not acting like it!" She stomped to the entryway, her voice so loud at this point that it coldly echoed. "You can take the train home, Tohma."

Shit. This wasn't the way Eiri wanted things to go. He wanted Tohma to leave, not be stranded here overnight.

"Wait, Mika-"

Slam.

Eiri groaned and resisted banging his head against the table. Tohma stared after Mika, his mouth slightly agape. He then turned his attention to Eiri.

"Why did you...?"

"I wanted you to leave me alone! I thought pissing her off would end up with you leaving, not her. It's not like she'll be mad at me forever. But hell if I know why she left the man who came onto me last night alone with her brother."

Tohma sighed and stared aside. "You know, Eiri-san, Mika-san will forgive you easily. She won't be so quick to forgive me."

"Not my problem," said Eiri as he folded his hands behind his head. "If you didn't hang around me all the time, she wouldn't have believed it."

"Eiri-san."

"What?"

Tohma sighed and shook his head. The situation was strangely familiar. "You need work."

"On what?"

"You said you wanted me to leave, but your prank ended up with both of us unhappy."

Eiri rolled his eyes. "Shut up, Hannibal Lecter." He wasn't going to admit Tohma was right. But hell, Tohma sure wasn't going to be staying in his house. After all the begging his sister did to get him to visit his sick and dying father, she left without making sure Eiri saw the visit through. "And get out?"

"Your father invited me to stay the evening."

Why? Why was his family so against him?!

"Look. You're getting a hotel. Finish your meal and get a hotel, Seguchi. No discussion. I jut need a break from you. One week without Seguchi dropping in! Just one."

"Eiri-san...."

Eiri looked at him seriously. "Just give me a break."

Tohma looked away and Eiri knew exactly why. And, as expected, Eiri couldn't deny a request from his ~beloved~ Eiri. "All right. I'll finish my dinner and leave. But if I do that, please explain to Mika-san that you were lying. Having her angry with me over something that never happened is unfair."

Eiri nearly blanched. From the tone of Tohma's voice, it almost sounded like Tohma wished the imaginary last night had happened.

"I changed my mind. Get the hell out right now!"
