After re-reading my earlier post, I think I gave the impression that I think that any mother who smokes, talks baby talk to their four-year old, and gives them a bottle is a bad mother. Honest, I am not that judgmental! I also neglected to say that this poor boy's teeth were rotted out of his mouth and he has to go to the dentist to get the black stubbs removed-the top first four were barely there-most probably the result of putting high sugar drinks into the bottle to go to bed with at night. After my consultation with mother regarding his speech, when I was trying to gently say I am very concerned without alarming mother or making her feel bad about her mothering skills, she leaned into me and asked again "Do you really think his speech is that bad?" I wanted to fall off my seat.
As told my the school head that I work quite closely in my community clinic with: my muscular dystrophy boy got really mad on the school yard earlier in the week. He pulled down his pants and peed over a boy who was on the playground.
Honestly, this job really enchourages a distoroted view of child development. I am sure when we were growing up we went to school with children who had needs like this. Sometimes I wonder what the heads of school thought when I think about all the different personalities I went to elementary school with. For instance, Hills, rememeber Coco (Courtney)? I wonder if the school thoguht she was crazy then too??? Hmm...
On another note, I hope you all have a lovely Easter. Claire, Ivan, Daniel and Duncan came down from Aberdeen. We are going to the Village Inn (pub/restaurant) for lunch and then coming back for strawberry shortcakes for dessert after. I has been great to see Clair and her boys!
