unsurprising

If y'all happen to remember, they offered me a paid job running the food coop (and whatever other crap they could burden my with) but I turned it down. Well, they found someone else to come take over and qu'elle surprise, she's an idiot.

Seriously, how did this woman get the job (aside from the community center being desperate)? Now, it's normal that the coop is run entirely by volunteers with occassional help from a paid staff member. And it was the volunteers (myself included) disagreeing with all of this woman's suggestions to cut corners and getting annoyed at her shit attitude toward the customers and the coop in general.

Example one: at the start of the day, she said to us "let's not bother with the monitoring forms today, it's too difficult". Now, these forms are there to prove that we have consistent customers and show how far they are traveling to get to the coop. Basically, they will keep us funded. On top of that, all they consist of is writing down someone's name and post code while they are being served.

Example two: she refuses to learn how to do anything herself. It is now her third week "running" the coop and she still doesn't know how to operate the scales or till. Every volunteer has been able to pick up these skills in two weeks maximum. When I was doing something else, she whined to me like a teenager, "come over and weigh my food". I then purposely showed her exactly how to do it but she wasn't even paying attention. She also hasn't bothered to learn the names of any of the Bangladeshi vegetables. When she was handing me stuff to weigh, she just kept saying, "those funny things" and I kept repeating, "you mean mukhi". This is all kinds of offensive.

Example three: today was the first day that she actually stayed until the end of the coop (every other day she had "a client" to deal with or some other bullshit. But at closing time on the dot, she was taking all the cash out of the tills to take upstairs when there were still people shopping. Now, as we only run once a week, much of the food cannot be saved so it behooves us to sell everything we can to break even. When I saw her carrying the cash box away, I pointed out that there were still customers and she sighed, rolled her eyes and skulked back to the tills.

Example four: All of us volunteers have learned that it doesn't look good to the customers when we go around cherry picking all the best food before they are allowed to come in to shop. We have decided on a policy whereby, we wait until everyone else shops to do our shopping. This woman has completely disregarded this policy from day one.

Final example: This is super judgemental, forgive me, I'm in a bad mood. She smokes like a chimney and throughout her time serving people, she kept complaining about how she was dying for a cigarette (and kept asking me if she could go when there was a huge line of people). When she was able to smoke, she just did it right by us (we set up outside when the weather is nice). Her job title is Healthy Living Coordinator and the food coop is there to combat many of the health problems in the local community by providing fresh fruit and vegetables. To me, this looks bad.

food, food coop, uk, complaining, work
