Thank you, American Express, for ruining my day.

We buy Amex gift cards by the gross (well, not really, but a lot of them) and give them to our Project Managers in the field to use for petty cash. It is my job to reconcile them, make sure that all purchases have purchase orders and receipts, and generally deal with the issue. To do this, I log onto the account information online, using the account number and a four-digit code that exists in the upper right-hand corner of the front of the card. When we buy the cards, I get copies so that all the information is easily at hand. I keep a database of this information (built my very own self when my workbook got unwieldy with 150+ cards).

That is, until today. Today, I went to log into the card accounts and discovered that Amex, in its wisdom, has decided to CHANGE the way we log onto the accounts. Instead of the four-digit code on the FRONT, they want the THREE-digit code on the BACK.

I don't have copies of the backs of the cards. So now I have to track down all of my mall project managers ten days before Christmas Eve and get them to give me the three-digit codes for their cards.

Thanks again, Amex. What had been the easiest part of the whole process is now bolloxed up. Now, not only do I have to track down this information, I have to add a new field to my database and build it into my reports and forms.
