We have explored the commercials of Free Credit Report.com in this space before. This was before the latest commercials were released.

I wish to talk about one of these. The lyrics are as follows:

When you're a rock star
You get to party hard
Champagne and caviar
Tricked-out, exotic cars.
It's just how I thought it'd be
Except the party's not for me
'Cause some punk opened a credit card on my ID

Now, if you think about it, what he's saying is that his music career was completely derailed because someone stole his identity and opened a credit card. That one, single event meant that he can't be a rock star, now.

Let's consider what's happened to this poor guy:

A hacker stole his identity, forcing him to work in a seafood restaurant.
His bad credit meant that he had to buy a ten-year old Geo Metro instead of a sports car or SUV.
He married his dream girl, but they couldn't buy a house because HER credit sucked (leaving aside the point that, apparently, his is none-too-good, either, as seen in the previous two commercials).
He got rid of the sub-compact because gas prices were too high, but wound up with a really cruddy bike. Again, this was because of generic bad credit, not anything to do with identity theft or hackers.
And an identity thief further destroyed his credit by opening a credit card in his name, preventing him from fulfilling his dream of rock stardom. Now, just who would offer this guy a credit card ANYWAY is baffling.

If you haven't seen these commercials, they are collected here.
