Title: Sure Fire Winners (part 5/?)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Will/Finn
Word Count: 1,675 in this part. (~8,500 in total)
Summary: There's lots to worry about, but luckily Finn doesn't have to worry alone.
Comments: This part of the story kinda has Puck's mom and dad in it, and I honestly couldn't remember if there's ever been mentioning of any other family members than Puck's mom in the show (after all, I've watched all the episodes for "only" three times - so if having his dad around is false information, just ignore it or let me know and I'll just make it his mom!) ..because yes. It really makes a difference if I get his mom/dad stuff right - after all, the Winn stuff isn't at all different from the storylines on the show.. :)

Will was already on his way out of his apartment when Finn breathed the panicked words into the phone. He had grabbed his jacket and ran out, when he heard the distant screams and Finn running down the stairs. He knew something was wrong. His heart was beating so fast it almost hurt, but it wasn't because of the running. It was pure worry and fear instead.

"I'm on my way, Finn.. I'm coming", he whispered to himself when he finally got the car running and reversed out of the driveway. He'd left his mom and dad to clean up the late dinner they'd been having, shouting "it's an emergency, gotta go, call soon", as he ran out the door.

The drive to Puck's house didn't take more than 10 minutes. He might've broken the law several times, he was quite sure of this, and thanked the gods of traffic for not getting pulled over at any point or crashing into someone when running the red lights. He arrived at the house and slowed down as he saw an ambulance just leaving and a bunch of people standing on the side of the road, hugging each other, some crying.

And then.. there was Finn. He was standing separate from the rest of the people, staring at the empty road, to the curve where the ambulance just disappeared with blinking lights and loud sirens. He was frozen in place, pale and clearly in shock. Will took a deep breath, he needed to calm down, be strong, find out what had happened and help him.. all of them. It was a chaos. It didn't help that everyone was more or less (mostly more) drunk.

Will opened the car door and walked to Finn. He tried not to startle him, softly placing his hand on his shoulder and whispering out his name. Finn turned around and it seemed it took him several seconds to realize who was talking to him. Then he just broke down.
"Will..." he said without sound and wrapped his arms around him. His legs gave way, but Will kept him standing, feeling his quiet sobs against his chest. He wanted to know what had happened to Puck, but he gave Finn a few moments. Holding the young man tightly, trying to keep himself together. Finally Finn pulled away, rubbed his face and took a deep breath.

"Puck.. he's.. he was in the pool. Unconscious. No-one knows what happened.. They got him out and.. Will, I have no idea if he's gonna make it.."
To his words, Will felt all the color draining from his face. He wanted so much to say that everything was gonna be ok, but instead he asked if Finn wanted him to drive them to the hospital. Finn nodded.
"Ok. Just wait a second, I need to check everyone's ok.." Will said, turned around and walked up to the group of people. They said silent hellos, the Glee girls hugging him shortly and some of the guys waiting for him to say something, anything. Something an adult would say. It's funny, Will thouth. In the eyes of the rest of the wold they're adults now, but in situations like this they were all reminded of how young they really are.

Will told them he was sorry about what happened, and asked everyone to take a moment to calm down, to take care of each other and then go home. He gave his phone number to Santana (she didn't seem to be too drunk, but she was shaken up and crying too) and told her to share it with the rest of them.
"Me and Finn are going to the hospital, and will probably stay there until we hear something. Please, everyone, call your parents to come get you - don't worry about them finding out about the party and you drinking. After what's happened they won't even care, they just want you home safe. Believe me. Don't. Drive. Go home, get some rest, sober up and call me in the morning", he said and took one more worried look around to make sure everyone was ok. Then he turned around and returned to Finn. He was still standing there, looking so sad it broke Will's heart a little.

"Ok, let's go.. here, put your seatbelt on" Will said and pushed him gently to sit down in the front seat. Finn looked up to him for a second like it was hard for him to understand the language being spoken. Then he obediently took the seatbelt and clicked in on.

Will tried to keep Finn talking on their way to the hospital, to find out what had happened, to make sure Finn was really ok. He was worried about him being in a shock or getting a panic attack or something. He was pale and worried, but otherwise he was quite ok - given the circumstances. He took Finn's hand in his at one point, squeezing it hard. He wished he could do something to take the pain and fear away. And shortly, he wondered if he would be this worried about anyone else and what this all meant..

But Puck.. it sounded really bad. Apparently, ne never regained consciousness, well, at least not before they took him away. Will wondered if his family already knew and if he should call them. He imagined the worst happening, and how Finn was going to deal with it. He shuddered, thinking it was wrong to even think about it. Puck was going to make it and that's it. He was going to be ok and later on they would all tell stories about the most horrifying graduation party ever.

They finally reached the hospital, rushed in, and Will told Finn to sit down, and went over to the reception to talk to a tired looking nurse. She told Will that Puck had been taken to the ER, and that she couldn't tell more (not that she knew more than that yet, anyway) because they weren't family. She asked them to wait in the hallway.

"Finn, do you have Puck's mom's number? We should call her.. or do you know if anyone called his parents to let them know?" Will asked.
"Yeah, I think one of the guys at the party did. I think they not in town." Finn said sadly. "They had some important thing somewhere, I don't know. They weren't planning to celebrate Puck's graduation until Sunday or something."
"Fuck.." Will said, burying his face into his hands. "They will blame themselves for this. And for not being here."

---

Finn never forgot the moment when he finally saw a doctor approaching them. The way it seemed like an eternity watching him take the short walk from the ER doors to them, the way he tried to read the doctor's face to know if it was going to be bad news. He remember standing up, grabbing Will's arm as he stood up beside him. Sliding his hand down his arm, taking his hand into his, squeezing, wanting to be safe, willing the doctor to say something positive.

The doctor introduced himself shortly, but got to the point quickly.
"He's alive, but in critical condition", to which both Finn and Will let out a breath they didn't know they were holding. It wasn't the best of news, but it was better than the worst case scenario they'd been thinking of. The doctor motioned them to sit down and sat next to them, telling them Noah was now in medically induced coma, and that now all they could do was to wait. "Simply put - we need to let his brain rest for a while, to let it heal itself. Now, if you would be kind enough to repeat my words to the family members when.. if they arrive. But for now, this is all I can tell you."
"Can we see him?", Finn asked when the doctor got up.
"Not yet, we'd prefer to keep him in peace. If you want, you can definitely go home, get some sleep, since things aren't probably going to change in the next 24 hours at all."

The doctor shook their hands again and left. Finn leaned against the wall, closing his eyes. "He's gonna make it, right?" he whispered softly, feeling Will's hand on his again. "Yes. He's gonna make it, Finn. He's gonna be ok." he finally had the courage to promise. "Now, I'm gonna call his mom.. they should be here soon, but I'm guessing they're doing the same thing I was doing when I was driving up to their house.. breaking the law, risking people's lives when driving too fast", he said, giving Finn a sad smile, taking his cellphone out of his pocket.

Finn looked at Will, really seeing him for the first time since that phone call from Puck's bathroom. He was here. Will was really here. He was here for him. Like.. taking care of him. Finn was still a bit drunk and too tired and too worried and probably too confused to really think it through, but it felt good.

Will told Puck's parents the news with a hushed, calm voice and told them not to hurry too much. He promised them he and Finn were gonna wait for them at the hospital, and that there was nothing any of them could do for now. He finished the call and suddenly looked like he remembered something.
"Oh. I need to let my own parents know I'm ok.. I might have scared them a bit, the way I left.."

He noticed Will clumsily writing a text message using just one hand.

He couldn't use the other one, since he was still holding Finn's.
