Touch the sky

I'm so happy today, I feel I could almost fly. ^_^

No particular reason, I'm just in a great mood today.

Kathleen got me flowers for starting my full-time job this week! (I've never gotten flowers from anyone outside my family before! I feel special. *preens*) She's very excited about me being the new LAII. And her excitement makes ME so much more excited. I've already done two full-time days, but they haven't been any different than usual since I still have to cover my old shifts until they hire a replacement. But tomorrow is my first 8:30am to 5:30pm day. So early... >_< But I'm VERY excited! ^_^

And then almost the first reference question I got asked upon starting my shift was about manga. A librarian from one of the branch libraries called to ask what genre manga would be under (since I work at the main central branch of our library system, we get calls for help from some of the smaller branches who don't have as many staff). So I gave her a title to look up (Fruits Basket) so she could see the genre (graphic novels, of course, but that includes non-Japanese stuff as well) and the various subjects that you can click through to find similar books. She was pleased with my help. Of course it's probably lucky she got me, as I'm not sure how well-versed my coworkers are in the world of manga. ^^;

Then there were two really cute kids:

Kid #1 (6 or 7-ish): Do you have any books about the body? 'Cause I want to be a doctor when I grow up!

And a few minutes later:

Kid #2 (9 or 10-ish): Do you have any books on architectur-y? I want to be an architect when I grow up!

I showed him the architecture books and he was quite excited about a biography on Julia Morgan, who was the architect for Hearst Castle.

I helped a future doctor and a future architect! XD I should have gotten their names so I could say I started them off in the right direction when they become famous....

For my dinner break, I went to Alice Keck Park Park, which was lovely. I was sitting on a bench and laughing to myself just because. (Not scary laughing, although other people in the park probably thought I was insane anyway...) It was beautiful. I said hello to all my favourite trees and turtles. :)

And just now, I had the two cutest kids ever! Well, probably not ever, but they WERE adorable. They were doing the Summer Reading Program and the boy (4-ish) refused to talk to me. I had to keep prodding him with questions (I even asked in Spanish in case he felt more comfortable talking in Spanish) and barely got three words out of him for the story. But I gave him the stamp anyway. His sister (6-ish) was quite talkative, though. She told me all about her stories, with no prodding necessary. And then the boy came back and suddenly decided I was the coolest person ever and told me all about another story he'd read and then asked me to draw a car for him and was otherwise fawning over me. It was sooo cute! <3 His sister liked me too. :) Since they were both so adorable, I gave them each a strip of stickers (leftovers from last year's SRP) and now they really love me. Yay! :)

So, an awesome day. La la la~~! *skips away* ^_^
