Oh, oh! Guess who just got a summons for jury duty! Guess!
You know, I totally said to myself as I was filling out the questionnaire in April or May, "They're going to summon me while I'm abroad, aren't they?" And lo! they did.
And of course it had to come on the Saturday before I leave, so I can't even call the office or anything. *sigh* Now, I've heard all kinds of stories about people who don't go and never get in trouble or anything, but I (as you will have noticed, keen flisters that you are) am just a mite panicky. *panics*
And in other travel!panic news, I am extremely woeful because I did not finish my library book before I had to return it. And it's a good book. (Tiger Moon by Antonia Michaelis, translated by Anthea Bell; and, incidentally, it just won a Batchelder Honor Award for children's literature in translation.) Curse these well-written 400-page epics. :(
Also, I hate all my clothes. I don't mind them so much while I'm here, but Europe is so much posher than the U.S. and therefore I feel that all my clothes (and shoes) scream "slobby American!" I don't want to be a slobby American. :(
Hugs and/or books that say DON'T PANIC in reassuring letters on the cover are most welcome.
