Can anyone think of YA fairytale novels (traditional or original) that feature multicultural characters? There are plenty of multicultural picture book fairy tales, but I can't say the same for YA fairy tales. The only one I can think of at the moment is Wabi: A Hero's Tale by Joseph Bruchac (and I think a couple of his other books are fairytale-esque as well). Isabel Allende's YA trilogy has magical/mythological elements, but it's not really a fairy tale.

I am thinking of doing fairy tales for my YA lit paper, and of course I can think of lots of books, but then it occurred to me that they're pretty much all white so I wondered if I could find some non-white ones. You know how I love to do impossible/hard-to-find topics.

The definition of YA according to YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) is anyone aged 12 to 18.
