Wanderers amid the stars

I mentioned a while ago that 2009 is the [ International Year of Astronomy ]. One of their events is 100 Hours of Astronomy, from April 2 through 5, for which there are many special events, local and international. One of the events is "Around the World in 80 Telescopes", which features continuous live webcasts from various observatories around the world. The [ live connection ] is kind of spotty at times, but it's pretty cool when it works (space geeks ftw!), and there will eventually be video clips posted over [ here ].

So, for today, a sidereal poem:

Wide are the meadows of night,
And daisies are shinng there,
Tossing their lovely dews,
Lustrous and fair;

And through these sweet fields go,
Wanderers amid the stars --
Venus, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune,
Saturn, Jupiter, Mars.

'Tired in their silver, they move,
And circling, whisper and say,
Fair are the blossoming meads of delight
Through which we stray.

Also, Iowa's Supreme Court legalized (again) same-sex marriage in the state! \o/ And the ruling was unanimous. This kind of restores my hope for humanity. The couples' reactions in the photo gallery are so lovely. [ Iowa ftw! ] ♥

And now back to reading myself cross-eyed about censorship. x_x

freedom to love, ad astra, news, planets, poetry month
