Only two weeks and I'm already behind on the year. *sigh*
Anyway, I had a fabulous weekend with
propinquitine and M., wherein we watched the SGA finale (because group therapy was totally necessary) and an assortment of other oddities, and explored a bit of the Dupont Circle Metro stop (though we got a late start and thus only actually made it to
Kramerbooks, but as that was my own personal goal and it did turn out to be an awesome indie bookstore, I felt it was a win).
Stargate: Atlantis (5x20 "Enemy at the Gate") ~ So, although it had it's WTF moments (Carson!! He does not get to fly the freaking city!! Gah!!!) and other flaws (of the usual variety where it's just best not to think about the workings of the plot overmuch), it was actually pretty good. In that, we got to commercial breaks and I actually cared what happened after. It's kind of been a while since that happened. (Well, it's kind of been a while since I watched it with commercials, since I lack a TV. But still, I was interested.) And Teyla and Ronon were actually there and got to be kickass and stuff, yays! Oh Team, I will miss you. ♥
As part of the group therapy aspect of finale night, we watched The Brotherhood from Season 1 (featuring arm porn,
Spazzy Cookies, and danger!math) while inattentively playing
SGA Clue. Then M. hadn't seen Vegas yet, so we watched that before the finale and discussed how JFlan's characters always end up SAD and ALONE and how this is NOT FAIR and gives us SADFACES (and then he ended up SAD and ALONE in the finale too *SADFACE*). Post-finale, we spent an hour and a half discussing the finale itself and also all the missed potential from the entire run of the show. (Cue more sadfaces.) We took a break from SGA to watch Sherman's March (one of JFlan's many failed pilots, in which there are sweaters and, of course, he ends up SAD and ALONE-how can anyone walk away from adorably hot and earnest JFlan in a sweater? this defies all the laws of physics!). Then we switched back to SGA mode and watched Rising, to see their wee newbie faces again and Jinto (who is totally among the Michael survivors) and reaffirm what canon says about the Wraith (conclusion: the Ancients totally created the Wraith in one of their experiments, even if they don't spell it out; the Ancient Hologram Lady they see when they first arrive in Atlantis totally lies, as revealed in The Gift (which we didn't watch but skimmed the transcript of later in our Wraith intel hunting (because we asked ourselves: What did we actually learn about the Wraith? Answer: Not a lot.))).
And then around 4am we decided we should maybe go to sleep, except then we lay around in the dark for another hour discussing further the missed opportunities of SGA and how we would fix all the bad episodes. And can I just say how sad it is that we, at 4 in the morning and coming down off a sugar high, can come up with much better/plausible/interesting ideas than the actual show writers? Gah. This is what fanfic is for, of course, but still. It made us sad that we were so much better without even trying (especially since, you know, these other people get paid for writing bad stuff).
So we got a rather late start on Saturday (possibly related to not going to sleep until 5am?) and dawdled over waffles and tea and thus did not actually leave M.'s apartment until about 3:30pm. M. had to stop by work ('cause she works at the National Institutes of Health and thus has cells to take care of and other such Important Things), so
propinquitine and I had an adventure wandering around the NIH campus in search of a Harry Potter exhibit at the library (which turned out to be closed, though no one actually tells you this and the security guards let you just waltz in even though there's nothing to see) and then trying to find our way back to M.'s building. Then when M. was finished with her cells, we finally made it to Kramerbooks, which also boasts the Afterwords Café so we split a few tasty appetizers for dinner and also had super delicious desserts, om nom nom. And then we lost ourselves in the bookstore part for about an hour, which was also om nom nom. Book geekery (with bonus tasty food) ftw! :D
After we finally dragged ourselves away from all the delectable books, we went back to M.'s apartment for more TV/movie watching, beginning with Star Trek "The Trouble With Tribbles" (because I was shocked to discover that
propinquitine and M. had never seen the Tribbles episode in its entirety) and Clue (because M. had never seen it and I'd brought it along to go with SGA Clue, and also because it is awesomesauce-Tim Curry ftw!). And then
propinquitine and I insisted on luring M. into the joys of Merlin, so we watched the first two eps before we passed out a whole hour and a half earlier than the previous night.
So, you know, pretty awesome weekend. I think we all concluded that we could not have done the finale alone. It was much better to have people to whinge at and discuss things with and eat comfort food with and such. :D
