I have fourt shortboxes worth of comics stored away at my mom's place, plus a shelf full of trade paperbacks.
karnimolly and
pandir are comics to visit next week (for AnimagiC, and just to hang out), and since they liked the recent Marvel movies I thought I'd show them a few comics.
But what issues to take with me to my dorm?
THE CHOICE WAS SO EFFIN HARD.
Just ask my mom. She kept lookin in on me, asking whether I'd made a decision... but usually she just caught me re-reading whatever comic fell into my hands.
They're all so pretty!
Now, half of my colelction is DC, and I wanted to concentrate on Marvel.
I didn't want to chose long story arcs, because we only have a few days and we don't want to spend all of that reading comics. XD;;; I fugured I'd need a small selection with short but pretty stories, nice art and possibly a few characters they already know, as opposed to comics that include shit loads of characters I'd have to explain. That's a maybe project for another day.
So here's what I chose:
Runaways
The first two paperbacks (the small, cheap ones ♥)
I live the characters to death and back, and you don't have to know much of anything about super heroes or Marvel characters to understand what's going on.
IRON MAN
From his 3rd run, #26~30
The Living Armor arc, in which Tony's armor develops a sentient personality and turns into an abusive boyfriend. What's not to love?
House of M
Trade paperback of the main story line
It's one of my favorite big events ever, and if we have the time I'd love to share it with Molly and Anna. Plus, it's an X-Men thing, and I think they did like X-Men First Class.
Young Avengers
Issues 1~12, first have in trade paperback
How could anyone NOT love these cute fanboys, with their gayness and their teenage angst and everything? ♥ I'd love to read a bit of this run with them, because it's seriously one of my favorite comics, period.
CIVIL WAR
#1~7
Yeah, big cross-over events are probably not to best place to start when you're just getting into comics, but Civil War is really just the story of Cap and Tony's messy break up, it has some really cute Spidey caught in the middle, so what's not to like? This one's a maybe, like House of M, but it had its moments. ^^x
(Now that I browse through it... it might have been better to take Road to Civil War as well, and maybe a Spidey issue or three from that time. Now I don't have the parts where Tony became Peter's sugar daddy... =/)
Batman: HUSH
Two trade paperbacks
Yeah, I had to include just a bit of DC goodness. I chose Hush mostly because I'm in love with Jim Lee's art, and I think the Hush story line was a good one. It had all three Robins and several other supporting characters, all rolled into one beautiful comic. ♥
