"Sticker" shock

Okay... I never thought I'd live to see this, but I've seen gas prices in the city up to $3.29 (regular!). I was going to marvel about the $3.01 a gallon I saw yesterday on the way home, but then this morning... YIKES!!! It's just mind boggling. My usual gas station raised the price overnight by over twenty cents. And from the looks of it, other places have raised it by even more! We used to grouse about two or three cent increases. Not only that, but the range of prices is really weird. I mean, places across the street from each other can vary by twenty cents or more. Along the strip near me where there are seven gas stations, the prices vary from $2.79 to $3.01 (my regular one is $2.86, it was $2.65 yesterday I think.) Then on the way to work I saw a price of $3.29 in several places (with other gas stations across from them still down in the $2.80s or $2.99.) *head spins* And there's no justification for this rip-off either, as I've mentioned in other posts, since the gas they're selling is gas they bought at the lower, pre-Katrina price. *sigh* Maybe I'll start taking the train to work. Yeah, it would give me some reading time and I'd get exercise walking from the station.
