&&everyday, we argue over the useless things
faces red with disappointment hanging in the air
hurt words and obvious disregard for feelings.
pains me, how I don't know who we are anymore.
rough voices yelling over each other,
tears growing thick in my voice, still unshed
realization comes to the both of us, I think
quite suddenly, we apologize; profusely
we stop talking after a few words
because when all is said and done,
we're still strangers
"why is it always work, Hyukkie? What about me?" "well, maybe I don't have time for you anymore." donghae's face contorted into one of disbelief. "you don't mean that. ..." "Maybe I do"
Eunhyuk could hear the thickness in Donghae's shaking voice. "I'll leave you alone then." Eunhyuk hadn't meant to say that. It'd just slipped out. This wasn't the first time they've fought but it was the first time Donghae gave up first. He loved Donghae, really he did. , but sometimes, he didn't know how to react to him. "Lee Hyukjae!" a stern voice cam through the door. "come in, Teuk-umma" He had his eyes closed but he could felt the added weight of their dorm leader on his bed. "what was that about?" "nothing!" "it sure didn't look like nothing. Sungmin had to chase Donghae down three streets to catch him and Kibum's still with him in his room, calming him down. He's crying, hyuk" "I know! Just, Leave us alone, we'll figure it out!" Sometimes, Eunhyuk wished everyone would just leave them alone long enough for them to solve it out on their own.
The next week came along but Donghae wouldn't even look at him. He passed Eunhyuk with a group of friends he'd never seen before. A feeling of regret was starting to settle on his heart, until he couldn't keep his feelings inside anymore. One day, when their university had a barbeque for graduating seniors, Eunhyuk took his chance. He pulled Donghae to the side. "Ouch! What are you doing, Eunhyuk?" donghae hadn't called him that since they first met in kindergarten. It was always "hyukkie" or "baby" but never just "eunhyuk." "Donghae, Hae, listen to me Please. I didn't mean to-" "donghae hyung, is this guy bothering you?" A college sophomore came forth and pulled Donghae away. "I'm fine, Kyuhyun-yah." Kyuhyun? The same one their advanced physics teacher was praising the other day? Without knowing, he'd let Donghae slip through his fingers
That night, Donghae heard a knock on his dorm door. "W-who is it?" "it's me." Donghae slumped to his knees by the door. "why can't you just leave me alone hyukjae? It's breaking my heart trying to get over you. I don't need you coming to me in the middle of the night." "i miss you." Donghae could hear through the door, the withdrawn sobs that hyukjae never wanted to show. He too broke down crying not long after. In between the tears, he could only ask. "when did we become like this, Hyukkie?"
Donghae couldn't remember what happened after that but he remembered the whispered sorries and "I love you"s from both ends and eventually, they'd both drifted off. In the morning, Donghae found himself leaning precariously against the door. He dressed in their school uniform before exiting. He knelt down to wipe the tear tracks off HIS Hyukkie's soft cheeks before continuing on his way, a goofy smile plastered on his face. He knew; that everything was going to be okay again.
