I HAVE POWER!!!!
I was a really pleasent surprise to come home from work tonight and find that the power at the house was back on.
and the sister and the kids are gone too ...... they are not the best of mannered kids.... nice enough but have no respect for their mother ....
I have a full tank of gas for my car so i dont have to stand in line for four hours like a co-worker did this morning ...
The power went out at like 8:30 on Friday night ..... there was no damage to the house .... there was a downed section of fence in the back yard... but no big deal .... the biggest blessing is the fact that we have had a cold front move in where the air is dryer and the temps are in the mid 80's and sooo nice at night ... perfect sleeping weather ...
I am a little surprised that the damage was not more ... i mean driving around and looking at things... not to trivialize anyones misfortune that not it at all ... i am use to seeing tornado damage ... and that to me has looked a lot worse than what i have seen in houston ..... now Galveston thats a whole other ball of wax.... they are devistated.... and i dont know I heard things about more damamge up north of us on the coast because of the storm surge and so on .... I have not been too tuned in to the new so you all probably know more than i do on that sort of thing ....
Work well thats not gonna be fun for the next moth or so .... the park is technically closed for the rest of the month of september.... and after that i have no clue .... there are a lot fo downed trees.... some of them huge .... and it will take a good bit to get them cleared out ... and other just off the trails and so on .. but no flooding at work .... and they are running on a generator... well more that one possibly i didnt quite get that... the regional office which is located currently in LaPort is still under evacuation .... temporarily the regional office is now working out of one of oure buildings ...
Sea Rim SP is pretty much gone ... it never recovered from katrina/rita .... and was still not open as of ike.... i have no idea if they are even gonna try to re-open it ever at all and just turn in to an unmaned preserve or something ...
Galveston SP has a ton of damage as well .... the main office/HQ is just a pile of rubble .... so i had heard... we have a few guys barrowing equipment tomorrow to try and unearth things like the safe and so on .... the covered shelters are gone ... the electrical hookups are still there but they use to stand 2-3 ft above ground and can bearly be seen over the sand .... there was a ton of beach erosion and so on .. and the beach damage was to be expected..... the office and structure damage was not really ... they have stood through so many storms in the past ... i suppose it was just their time *shrugs*
