I'm frustrated at the way I have been taught about flexibility up to this point in my life. Specifically dance, but also just in general. There was such a focus on "just bend, darn it!" without paying any attention to form. The stretch this has become the most obvious in to me is the reaching-to-your-toes type of stretch. I can reach my toes just fine, thank you, but because that was the main focus in stretches and warm-ups, the flexibility is all in my back, and not where it should be. My backs of legs have very limited flexibility, and as a result, dancing just..doesn't look very good. Sitting in second, I can't lift out of my hips, so I already have a rounded back when I start these exercises. I can't even sit up properly in staff pose in yoga. I think my back also is missing the strength it needs for maintaining proper posture.
My main frustration is that I have been led to believe my flexibility was improving, when it was all a lie. A LIE!!!
