I mean, presumably you would research tattoo artists and look at their portfolios before committing to a tattoo. To do otherwise would be irresponsible.
Re precision, I assume it's similar to anything else requiring a steady hand and being able to regulate pressure, e.g. puff paint. I assume the squeeze things are a little more sensitive than puff paint bottles, but you get the idea. As for aesthetic balance, some people are good at this and some aren't. You happen to be.
I bought a henna tattoo kit a while ago, but I don't think it came with a very good applicator. But that would definitely be fun to play around with.
Anyway, here is the one I got:
I like it a lot, but some parts flaked off early, so it's not going to be as even or as dark as I'd like.
