I'm about to sound really ungrateful/bitchy/what have you...so yeah.
I've gotten a couple henna tattoos in my life: a pegasus on my upper arm, some abstract design around my belly button, a kind of flowery design on my neck, and I just got another flowery one done extending from my right middle finger to halfway between my wrist and elbow. Maybe henna is one of those things that I shouldn't knock until I've tried to actually do it, but I'm pretty sure I could have done a better recreation of the pattern that was printed (I've never requested a freehand tattoo, so creative license is supposed to be out of the picture). (In all fairness, the only one I don't think I could have done better is the pegasus one.) Maybe it's the "artist" in me being a snob or something, but I don't see how hard it is to recreate a relatively simple design with an appreciable level of precision and accuracy. I'm not sure why I continue to spend money getting them done if they aren't as good/well-executed as I'd like them to be. Granted, I only spent $10 on this last one (but it was for a good cause, so I guess it wasn't really money wasted). It was done by a fellow student who had only taken a few classes while she was in India, so I wasn't expecting it to be top notch. However, I'm 90% certain that I could have at least done a better job in terms staying true to the original pattern (in terms of placement and aesthetic balance), if not also in precision (I've never tried to give a henna tattoo, so I have no idea how hard it is to control the medium). Either way, I've come to the conclusion that I should just buy my own kit and experiment on myself because I see little-to-no reason why I should pay for something that I can do myself, and potentially better. The only downside would be that I wouldn't be able to ever do anything cool on my right hand, mainly because I'm not ambidextrous. But yes. I needs to get a henna kit so I can stop sounding whiny and bitchy about the henna that other people do.
^This is why I will probably never get an inked tattoo.
