Takaki Yuya's 17 years old.
He sat lonely looking at the stream of river in the forest's edge. The black vest which he wore in the funeral was thrown blatantly on the ground. His mother just passed away because of heart attack. His father followed the hearse in insentient. When all of these people left, the man still stood at his wife's grave and muttered something. Takaki had to try really hard to pull his father out of there to follow him inside the car.
- It's your mother! - The man kept on pointing at a sparrow and said.
- Dad, please stop that! - He shouted, foot slamming hard on the accelerator.
- But it's true! - The man looked at the sparrow that was flying around with other birds and smiled - I know it's your mother . No matter she becomes what and who, I still recognize her.
Takaki looked at his father's eyes, which went wild and kept on watching the small bird, his heart hurt.
His father never loved him. This was the first time the man spoke to him with this emotional, for 17 years he existed in this world.
Now he didn't want to think much about this, he only wanted to think about his mother. About the first and only person until this time, giving him the smiles.

The sky was blue , and clear. Leaves and grass looked also green and fresh. The river was sparkling with noonday sun's rays.
- Stranger, why are you sitting here? - A clarity voice suddenly rang out, Takaki got a bit startled , he turned back and looked.
A pair of eyes widened in surprise and a lovely childish face caught his attention. Takaki rolled his eyes and looked at the boy questioningly.
- What are you doing on my land? - The small boy continued asking him fondly.
- "Your" land ? - Takaki squinted.
- Yes, " my" land. Whenever I'm happy or sad, I always go here to play. - The boy grinned.
- You live here, huh? How old are you? - Takaki smiled when seeing that innocent face of the boy just lightened up a little .
- My house is near here. I'm a grown up boy already, I'm 8 years old now! - The small boy swaggered when talking about his age - And how old are you?
- 17! - Takaki didn't look at the boy anymore, he faced the river , looking at centain distance.
The boy calmly sat down beside him and started chatting about something so childish.
- Why do you talk so much? - Takaki had to speak out when that boy kept on talking about the story of strawberries for the 4th time.
- Because I like strawberries ! - The boy grinned back.
- It's not about strawberries or no strawberries - He sighed - I asked you talked too much like that for what ?
- Because talking about strawberries makes me happier. - The boy answered him innocently.
- So? - He replied to that adorable boy in a cold voice - You're happy or sad, anything related to me?
- Because I see you're sad! - The small boy stared at him with his big eyes, half questioning, half fear - I'm happy then you'll also be happy. Isn't it ?
- What makes you think so ? - Takaki laughed.
- My mom said that. She said when I'm happy she also feels happy , everyone is happy! - The boy spoked excitedly then tilted his head looking at him - Are you happy?
Takaki didn't answer, he stared at the boy for a moment and smiled, a hand rubbing the boy's head.
A blue sky. A green leaf. A turquoise river.
Leaf was floating, slightly displacing on the turquoise river. The sun ray was sparkling and reflecting onto the blue sky overhead.
A colorless space. Between heaven and earth.
- Yes! - He answered very quietly.
- I told you so! - The boy chuckled.
A sparrow suddenly landed on his shoulder, chirping.
- Ah …sparrow! - The boy exclaimed - Brother, why didn't it land on my shoulder while I'm this cute ?
- So you mean I'm not cute huh? - Takaki rolled his eyes.
- No … no … It's not that! - The boy panicked - I see you ..uhn … cute, too. - He said reluctantly.
- You're good at lying too. - He laughed , letting the sparrow to land on his hand, and petting it.
- Maah, you're not cute, but handsome ne ! - The boy sightly pulled Takaki's sleeves and flattered him.
The small bird suddenly flew up, joining in other chirping sparrows.
- It's flying away already! - The boy cried.
- Stop stop it. Why do you have to cry? Boys shouldn't cry like that! - He frowned when seeing the boy's eyes were closely in tears already.
- Which one is that sparrow ha ? - Some of these sparrows landed on the tree next to their position, the boy wiped his eyes, leaning against the tree and asked - All of these birds look the same after all.
- Geezzz! You're such a baka, just watch and you'll find it! - Takaki snorted, and reached his hand out to point at the sparrow jumping on the ground - That's it!
- Wow! - The boy's eyes widened - How do you know that ? How do you know that ? Are you cheating me ? - He both praised and suspected.
- Do you want me to beat you? - Takaki laughed and explained - This , just look carefully at it, isn't it …
Isn't it .. what ? What's speacial about it that makes me recognize?
He suddenly remebered back to those mindless words of his father. Disappointed.
How do I know it's that sparrow in several of birds that mingled here?
- Brother, what happened ? - The boy shocked when seeing Takaki froze on the spot, and sunddenly tears running down - Why are you crying?
He cried. For the first time since the moment he lost his mother , he cried. His forehead frowned up and started sobbing. His eyes still opened wide, watching the sparrow jumping on the ground.
- Brother? Why are you crying? - The boy got scared and asked him - You said boys shouldn't cry, didn't you ?
- My mother is gone! - He hastily answered the boy and cried louder - She's gone ! ! Gone ! ! !
The boy was silent. He didn't ask anything anymore. The sparrow flapped its wings, then flew away. Far. Far away to the immense space of blue sky.
- Gone ...It's gone ! - He unconsciously repeated, eyes still widened, and crying loudly.
The boy got up, embracing his arms around Takaki's neck and cried along. He cried loudly and even overlie the sound of his sobbing.
Takaki didn't look at the distant sky with the flying bird anymore, he closed his eyes, hugging the small boy tight and continued crying. Running his finger through the boy's silky hair, he felt something tugging in his heart. It was so warm.
He inherited from his mother this thick , beautiful, and natural wavy hair. The boy ,too. He had a thick and silky hair, with rich undertones of coffee milk shade.
He cried for so long, and remembered to the moment his mother leaving this life . About apathetic attitude of his father through past 17 years. And about everything he had in his hands for now.
He didn't cry because of all these things.
The sparrow flew away already.
A colorless space. Between the mourning and white daisies.
Dad didn't belong to him, Dad belonged to his mother. Mom didn't belong to him, Mom belonged to the sky. The sparrow too, it belonged to the blue and sunny sky over there. Nothing in this world belonged to him.
He didn't cry because his mother was not here. He cried because he realized, in this world, there were things that would never belong to him, no matter how hard his tried, or no matter how much he want to snatch it , by any ways.
Like Mother didn't belong to him though he loved her wholeheartedly. Like Father didn't belong to him though he committed to follow all he wanted. Like the sparrow didn't belong to him, though he coddled and treasured it little by little.
In his arms now, there was only the small figure of a stranger …which couldn't belong to him either.
17 years old, he realized …
Just loving … is not enough.
Yet he still recognized in the multitude of things.
Heavy ...
