(no subject)
My band, great caesar, opened for Third Eye Blind last night at the TD banknorth sports arena in hamden, ct. We played in front of probably 1500-2000 people and rocked the stage. IMO we played better than the other opener and probably put on a more exciting set than TEB (don't tell them that).
Walking into the arena from backstage before the concert was pretty surreal - I didn't have any nerves or jitteriness, and I wasn't even necessarily that awed by what was going on. It was almost disturbing how soberly I acknowledged that my career, and my life, is starting NOW. Yes, it was sort of a fluke that we got the opportunity to play this show, but it's not like we weren't qualified to share that stage. The right series of big breaks, like this one, and consistent good playing, is what makes fans come. And we do that - as individual musicians and as a band. GC is not a garage band anymore, it's a real thing that makes good music and just might make us a living sometime soon.
I now fully acknowledge that going on tour last summer was the most significant experience of my life - waking up every day with the sole mission of playing sick music and being a presence in a stranger's ears. That is what I want from life, and now I have a taste of it. Sax mic pumped through 4 PA systems each taller than myself, under spotlights, blasting my face off in front of a sea of people. Awesome.
Right now I'm studying to become the best saxophonist I can possibly be.. in many senses it doesn't matter, I have more than enough technical capacity to fulfill basically any pop/rock saxophonist role. But what I want to do is CHANGE that role, to become more than my instrument, my voice, and my place in the band, to become a musical figure the likes of which hasn't yet been defined or even attempted. One way or another, I am going to achieve this and more. I have a ticket now, but it's not just waiting for my train to come, there's a lot of work before I get there. And luck. But it will come.
By the way, the lead singer of teb is an asshole! :X
