Whichever you think is best for them to hear! I recently had to tell my parents a whole lot of things... everything really... and... they strangely took it really well.
"Hi, mom. Turns out I'm the reincarnation of ancient dragon god, I found this out when I died, I got better and had to go reclaim my kingdom in another world, then Amadobastard's psychotic big sister came and beat me up until I came back. Oh, by the way, I have superpowers and an army, and I may or may not be immortal, I'm still not quite clear on that."
Hahah, yeah, guess not. I think half the reason my parents took what I told them so well was because they didn't understand much of what I told them... and they were just happy I was alive.
... yeah, there's that, but my mom can do this thing with a look that makes you feel guilty for things you haven't even done yet, and it's even worse when you have done things.
...taking a really long holiday? ... around the world trip in a boat? ...decided to travel in a desert? ...visiting a friend you knew who lived really far away?

Well, instead, I need to lie to them, but...
