I'm possibly going to get another promotion this month. Our seniour engineer is leaving, after making a complete arse of himself during the last year. He's been quietly told to leave his position. In fact, he is the senior engineer that I was having so much trouble with some months ago.
Now, this new position is opening and I've been asked to apply for the position. However, I am not comfortable with the job, for various reasons. I will take the job if I feel it is offered with a clean slate, but not if it is offered with conditions. I really do not want to be working with my hands tied behind my back.
Nevertheless, I don't think I'll get the job. Instead, I've quietly manipulated things so someone else gets the job. This other person is someone that I think fits the role better than myself, while they are also indebted to me in various ways. For me, it's a perfect situation. I don't have to deal with the complications of the new job, but I also have a large amount of influence on the person in the position.
