Um, ok, so... for the very first of my "100 Things" Parenting posts, I was gonna do this big introduction (for those who hadn't read my journal yet and only came here for the 100 things, or were very new friends, and weren't familiar with the whole story of me and my kids) but... no.
Instead, I'm going to start with this shameful admission in how I completely and utterly MANIPULATED MY CHILD to get what I wanted. Yes.
Because I am human and I think my brain might explode if I have to listen to the Scooby Doo theme song ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME.
Anyways, while Michael is napping, James wanted to watch a DVD and was trying to choose and I... was subtley trying to steer him away from Scooby Doo (like, seriously, I love that show, but come on. the kid is *obsessed*. I am talking that he insists on everyone calling him Fred, he refers to his two girl cousins as Daphne and Velma and his imaginary friend Robbie is now Imaginary Shaggy. He makes up new scooby theme songs and sings theme continuosly in the car. It's... ALL ENCOMPASSING). So...
I go through the choices... Wiggles? Rapunzel? Sooty? Mr. Men? Something, omg, please just choose... when that evil little voice from inside me says to him "The show with the hunter?" in this little tempting voice.
Because, he has walked in on me watching Once Upon A Time twice in the last few weeks and it is always, for some reason and without fail, episode 1.07 "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" and so this is what he calls the show. And he claims that he loves it, even if he gets scared a little bit.
But... in my defense, I need my brain, you all LIKE me with my brain. I'm not much good without it. And if it happens to combust in a case of Spontaneous Cranial Hydroplosion because of the Wiggles or some stoner cartoon dog... well. It's not going to happen.
Yeah, I know it's not entirely 5 year old appropriate, but...
At least it has good female role models. Kick Ass Snow White!! "Go Snow!" And now, he's kinda impressed that he shares a name with Prince Charming. (kinda, maybe, can the writers clear this up for me? Because... I know it's not his name, but HE doesn't know it's not his name and neither does Snow and really?).
At least I'm sane and can watch some cool tv. Now, I just have to make sure he doesn't see the really bad episodes.
