debt or not

I have met many people that avoid loans. Some even don't borrow for business purposes. Ethic extremals don't borrow even interest free.

The reasoning is simple: spending only what is already yours is conservative, safe, economical and, for some people, more "right".

Starting from my mature financial age I also have decided for myself to avoid debt for short term consumption. Borrowing was acceptable only for real estate or business.

Now I have generalised the issue more, and happy to find right justification for my attitude to debt.

First comes the generalisation of interest: loan interest, debt-free, or interest from investment (deposit) are different levels of the same measure. For example, if for one person it is ok to buy a pool is ok only after the loan for car is repaid, for other it may be ok after an amount equal to the pool price is invested with interest.

Second, we compare interest payment to sleep. Normal, 8 hour sleep, would be a debt free position. Indeptness is similar to saving on sleep - one can do this harmless until some point. Instead, sleeping during the day may recover from fatigue, stress and even sickness.

In bad financial times as in bad day oversleeping is helpful. When it is necessary one may save on sleep to get ahead of others, help someone or get a good deal. Debt free position is a golden midpoint
