I want to put my thoughts about the weekend down but I have a feeling they won't be very coherent.
I had a very distinct idea in my head of what the weekend was going to be like, and I will admit some of it was spot on, but some was dead wrong. When I first walked into the main room the episode Iron Mike was playing. So I figured I'd grab a seat and try to figure things out when the lights came up. Boy was I wrong. I didn't get more than 2 or 3 steps into the room when I was grabbed up into a hug by a lady in a pink sequined baseball cap. Flamingo. I was then gifted by the other locals of this strange new land, and with my hands suitably full was told to find a seat and watch the show. After that it was 'off to the races'. I was pulled into a game of bingo the likes of which I'll never be able to recreate. Then my first panel discussion. Interspersed with all this were lots of introductions.
I felt a bit like Blair Sandburg making his way down the Amazon. It was almost overwhelming. But I knew I was amongst friends when I heard someone wolf-whistle at an ass shot of Starsky. These were my people, and I was home. The love in the room was tangible. I was vaguely intimidated by the ease with which some people could immediately come up with an episode title or an author or fic title with a vague description. It was like a live action fic finding community.
Dinner Friday was interesting. From illicit wine to hair-clip stealing soccer players. I really appreciated being invited on early morning coffee runs. Even if we did have to deal with people who couldn't park for shit.
