Snippet of an Hawaii 5-0 Fic.
This idea planted itself in my brain and won't let go. I'm posting this little snippet here just to put it out there.
I am claimed. Everything I am is yours. From the beginning of time to the end of all things. I am claimed.
Danny hated those words the first time he’d heard them. He was 12 and finally deemed old enough to attend a Claiming Ceremony. The Ceremony had been for an older cousin, who’d found her ‘Mate’, she was 17 her Mate: 24. Danny watched half heartedly as Jeff put the thin leather collar around Meghan’s throat. She was kneeling on the floor in front of a whole crowd of family and friends looking happier than Danny could ever remember seeing her look. But that didn’t change his mind. He still hated the whole prospect of ‘Mates’ and ‘Claiming Ceremonies’ and ‘Life Bonds’; because Danny knew what it really meant. Being Claimed meant you had to give up everything. Your home, your family; your whole life was lived for your ‘Mate’ once you were Claimed. Danny might not have minded it so much if he weren’t destined to be Claimed, but there it was; right there plain as day. He bore the Mark, and would one day find The One who would Claim him. It wasn’t actually ‘plain as day’ unless you knew what you were looking for. The Mark was only visible you, your parents, and your Mate. Danny thought he’d seen The Mark on Rachel; but after six months of marriage they both realised the Mark they’d seen had been one of True Friendship, not Love. Rachel’s Mate, it turned out, was a ‘richer-than-God’ businessman named Stan. Because of their True Friendship Rachel was able to get pregnant. Which meant only one thing: Danny’s Mate was male.
