Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
*Every city has a rhythm, a particular music it dances to. Joshua can hear/feel it since he’s the Composer. For the most part, people aren’t aware of a city’s ‘song’ until they enter the UG.
*He can also levitate at a decent height. While levitating, he can use his aerial attacks, explained in the "Weapons" section.
*He can jump between dimensions, but it does take a bit of energy from him. He rarely uses this ability.
*Joshua can create a pact with a Player without their permission.
*It will take a lot of effort to read his mind or mess with his mind in any way.
*Bullets stop in mid-air when they near him, so it’s very difficult to kill him.
*Although ageless, this does not mean that he cannot be killed by the hands of someone out for the status of the Composer. It’s just easier said than done.
*He’s the one who ‘judges’ who is worthy of being granted second life, and will grant it to a person who shows worth.
*Joshua is the one who makes up the rules for the Reaper’s Game. The Reapers are also his ‘underlings,’ however it’s very rare for them to actually see his face, let alone know his name. The Composer usually acts through his second-in-command, the Conductor.
*He can create barriers that only effect spirits/the dead.
*Joshua is able to go between the UG and the RG (Underground and Real Ground respectively). In the RG, it's implied that he can look whatever age he wishes, but the younger he is, the more his powers are cut in strength. Generally speaking, being in the RG cuts his strength either way, and it's a dramatic cut as well.
*It's not clear as to whether he has telepathy or just finds people ridiculously easy to read, but I personally say he has telepathy to cover my bases. Joshua uses this ability whenever he wants to.
*When Joshua is in his true Composer form, typically the only ones who can see him are Angels. His form is a step below the Higher Plane, but a step above the UG, which makes sense since the Composer is described as the highest ranking Reaper, but the lowest ranking Angel.
*He can teleport, surprise surprise. In canon, he's limited to areas within the Shibuya district of Tokyo. However, in Siren's Pull he will be limited to just the Port or whatever city he's in. Naturally, if something is anti-teleport, then he can't go there.
*Joshua does have wings, and he can fly, technically, but he rarely uses them. He prefers teleporting over flying most of the time.
Weapons: An orange cell phone! No, seriously, it has some awesome functions to it so that it doesn't just act as a weapon. When it's used to defend himself, Josh's cell has the ability to call down a random assortment of things you find around in a city setting, such as a roadblock or a bike. Using the camera on his phone, he can move a person from one side of the field to the other, and has a chance of stunning them for a brief period of time. However, if he's using an aerial attack, then instead of random stuff falling on the target, instead pillars of light will smite them. Joshua can lock on to multiple targets on one side of the field, and can do some destructive damage to enemies on that side of the field with his finisher.
Outside of battle, he can take pictures of the past by punching in the date and time. The drawback is that he can only do this three times a day.
Finally, he can send text and make/receive calls like any ordinary cell phone, given that he has service.

Character Personality: What’s prominent about Joshua’s personality is that he’s a snotty brat. He doesn't like doing heavy legwork unless it’s absolutely necessary; preferably, he enjoys others doing such duties for him. He also loves teasing people by twisting words, but at the same time he can twist words so bad that he can hurt someone quite badly with them. He has an air of arrogance around him, and it isn’t entirely unjustifiable. Joshua is confident in everything he does, and doesn’t normally second-guess himself. He’s powerful even if he neither looks nor acts like it.
However, beneath all of the arrogance is an extremely intelligent and wise character. He’s perceptive and aware of the people around him. Living for as long as he has, Joshua has seen many types of people, from the bad to the good. Yet he has seen more people with bad qualities than he has good qualities, and not many of them change when he grants them second life. As a result, he has a cynical attitude toward people and their ability to change. But when he sees Neku change for the better, Joshua starts to feel hope that the people of Shibuya can change.
Joshua is not the most honest person anyone will ever meet. At best, he tells partial truths, but for the most part he lies. He’s convincing as an actor and liar, and it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking. Joshua’s signs are subtle, and the only person who can really read him is Sanae Hanekoma because of the bond they share. He appears to be indifferent to others and their pain. Yet once someone manages to worm their way into his heart, Joshua will care, but he hides it deep within himself.
Hanekoma has also noted once before to Neku that he is really a lonely person deep down. Joshua doesn’t have anything in the way of friendship, other than his tie with Hanekoma. As he is the Composer of Shibuya, he isn’t permitted to leave the hidden base on the other side of the Shibuya River. Not to mention he will more likely than not outlive anyone he considers a friend, and his personality tends to keep people away from him. Hanekoma also notes in a Secret Report that Josh had looked sad as he watched Neku reunite with his friends, most likely because he cannot join them.
He can be manipulative, and likes to play games with everyone. It doesn’t matter who it is, but Joshua does come off as someone who treats everything like a game. Though true to a certain extent, he has an underlying maturity in him. Joshua sees life and death as two different games, and doesn’t normally bother with the game of life. In death, he doesn’t just treat it as a game, but also as a chance for people to discover what’s truly important.
It’s hard to take Joshua by surprise as despite the laid-back attitude, he’s a cautious individual. He has to be because of his position, and he doesn’t want anyone to know about the Producer’s existence. He is also constantly surrounded by people who do their jobs, but have motives underneath that. Joshua has to remain cautious because of those hidden agendas, the best example being Sho Minamimoto’s attempt to assassinate him. He has rarely seen someone express kindness just for the sake of being kind.
Joshua is also unbiased and prefers to be in the shades of grey. He judges people with fairness, and leaves out as much bias as he can. His actions can be questionable at best, and they sometimes make him seem like a selfish character. However, Joshua takes responsibility for all of what he does, even if the motive isn’t quite clear. He doesn’t care what people think of him as he knows exactly what he did, and has calculated the consequences of his actions.
There are times in which he can be a downright jerk, but this is a more calculated side of him. Though normally subtle, he understands that there are times he needs to be blunt and forthright. Sometimes, it’s to push someone to see the bigger picture or to force the truth out from the dark and into the light. The best example of the latter is during Neku and Joshua’s final interrogation of a Reaper band to reveal who had stolen their mic, in which Joshua called out BJ on using the Phonebooth of Love.
Joshua is also calm and patient, perhaps extremely so. He's rarely seen annoyed or angry in canon. Even when Neku got angry at him for killing him, Joshua would just calmly insert logic, basically telling him, "So what if I had killed you? What're you gonna do about it?" While certainly philosophical, he's also logical. Using the stolen mic fiasco as another example, he calmly points out the significance of Tenhou's cell phone's appearance and disappearance at certain times. He, along with Neku, also conclude that the real thief is Sho Minamimoto, and further concludes that the mic is in one of Minamimoto's junk piles that's nearby.
Character Plans: Honestly, Joshua's only interested in survival and getting back to Shibuya. Yet, it will be interesting to see how he deals with a setting like this in general. He'll have to deal with a much darker setting than he's used to, and the organizations he will need to affiliate with…well, Joshua will take the lesser of two evils, that's for sure. He's going to do whatever it takes to survive and get out of a broken city like this.

Well, at least this phone can place calls. It's quite the inconvenience to have to carry around two phones at once. On the plus side, I can tell them apart since the models are vastly different.
[He seems positively unconcerned about the fact that he was "abducted" by the city. The camera is also at such an angle as to make it impossible to see which part of the city he's in.]
Perhaps I should invest in an upgrade. At any rate, would anyone care to give me a tour of this lovely city? It's a nice, dreary day today, perfect to go walking around in.
Before I forget to ask, does anyone know if 15-year-olds are better off working or bunking with someone and entering the educational system in Siren's Port?

Disjointed. Disharmonious. Notes too sharp or too flat. An ever-shifting rhythm that held something dark beneath it all, but at the same time it was alluring. Somehow, it was the brokenness that made it beautiful and unique, and there was a haunted quality about it that only added to it. For Joshua, it had to have been a combination of the music and whatever device had lured him into the city when he made that jump from one dimension to a parallel one.
I feel like Minamimoto just made my life even worse when he used that attack. The Composer thought in amusement as he walked down the streets of Siren's Port, hands in his pockets. He looked for all the world like he was on a leisurely stroll, posture completely relaxed and gait even.
Goodness, I'd hate to face any Noise in this city. Just as the music in Port was twisted, so, too, were the Noise in the area. Luckily, they were only heard instead of seen, but it gave an added despairing quality to the city's song now that he was paying attention to them. Joshua shrugged lightly to himself. Learning more about the city seemed to be the best thing, and he doubted that he would be allowed in the hostel for too much longer.
Upon entering the center of Siren's Port, Joshua approached the first person who appeared to be as foreign to the city as he was. Hopefully the person wasn't so unhinged as to attack him--being supposedly defenseless and young--outright.
"Howdy. Mind telling me which apartments are better to look at than others?"
