I've just spent almost all day getting an MRI. Then, after finally stepping up to the machine and holding still while they took pictures of my brain, the machine broke. They got the images, but they can't print the films. I have to go back tomorrow.
The radiologist said that my condition seems to be much improved, but I couldn't understand anything else. Last time I went to this hospital, the radiologist was fluent in English. This time, nobody there spoke a word of English. They didn't even know the words "spinal cord" or "MRI". Of course, I didn't know how to say these words in Chinese, either!
They couldn't understand me when I said "multiple sclerosis" in Chinese. So I pulled out my old film from August. The radiologist took one look at it and said, "OH! MS!" How's that for a perfectly clear textbook-case MS lesion?
Still, the radiologists seemed a bit puzzled by the idea of getting an MRI just to see what your brain looks like before a treatment, in order to compare it with the scans after a year of treatment. I tried to explain in Chinese, and I think they understood, but they looked at me as if I were terribly extravagant, taking random pictures of my brain and cervical spine.
Well, I'll go back tomorrow and get the results. Not that I'll be able to read my own MRI films.
