Oh, this is cherce

After John McCain squicked everyone out with his September 11 slideshow at the convention, I want to know what he thinks about this.

The gist:  the people who think about such things have created a model building code that would include additional safety features for tall office buildings -- features that would seriously come in handy if, say, an airplane flew into the building.  The model code is up for review, and the federal government, via the GSA, is fighting the new provisions.  Why?  Because saving human lives just isn't worth the money.

Yet another example of "pro-life" only applying to fetuses.

An example of the kind of thing the GSA is fighting?  Putting luminous markings on stairs so you can see them if the lights go out.  According to the article, the World Trade Center voluntarily put those up after the 1993 attack, and they saved a lot of lives in 2001.  But the GSA says, so what?

Another thing they don't want:  extra stairs -- you know, so more people can escape before the building falls down?  They would cost money, and building owners would lose rental income because there would be less available floor space.

You know what causes a major, major loss of rental income?  Buildings falling down and killing people.  That can ruin your whole business plan.

Anyone who opposes this is not allowed to invoke September 11 Ever.  Again.  I forbid it.

Maybe some reporters could tear themselves away from Sarah Palin long enough to ask McCain what he thinks about this.
