In today's Times, we learn that
Barack Obama likes spinach, broccoli, and Black Forest Berry Honest Tea. Obviously an effete liberal.
I like Honest Tea, but I don't think I've had the Black Forest Berry. Will have to look for it the next time I'm at that bastion of effete liberalism, Whole Carcass.
I loves me some spinach and broccoli, too. I had spinach in my lunch today, and broccoli is my favorite year-round vegetable.* But it kind of bothers me that Barack doesn't like asparagus (according to the article, he'll eat it only as the vegetable of last resort). How could anyone not like a vegetable you eat with your fingers that takes two minutes to cook and that makes your pee smell funny? To me this suggests a certain coldness and lack of sensuality. But then I look back on the Clinton administration and think maybe that's a good thing.
Anyway. Remember Bush senior saying he hated broccoli, and that he considered carrots "orange broccoli"? I think the world would be a better place if we had a president who publicly supported broccoli.
*Asparagus is my all-time fave, but it doesn't freeze well, so I only eat it when it's in season.
