Room 513, Saturday morning

Mar 31, 2012 07:47

All in all, it had been a good night. Bruce had a very nice date, won the biggest crown of his high school career, received a strategic breakdown on how to fight beings with gravity powers (you never know when that might be useful), and afterwards... Well, poor Chuck was exiled somewhere but Bruce wasn't alone in the room ( Read more... )

So Ethan would have been totally capable of entertaining himself on the island without bothering either of his parents. It was pretty much the same game he played at home: Stay out of their way and hope they didn't start ragging on him about something dumb, like why he wasn't getting an A in calculus, or whether he was going to rejoin the lacrosse team this term, or if he'd like to go on a date with Kaitlyn from the church youth group.

But he'd had it pretty well drilled into him that he needed to check in once in a while and his wallet hadn't made it through the portal anyhow. He reluctantly tapped on what he was fairly certain was his father's dorm room door.

"It's your kid," he called. "Give me $20 for breakfast and I'll let you go back to sleep."

[OOC: Will be slow but wanted to start the party!]

That... wasn't the kind of child's voice Bruce was expecting. He expected something higher pitched and coming from a couple feet lower.

"I was already awake," Bruce called back as he grabbed a robe and twenty dollars in case this checked out. He cracked the door open and peeked outside. He certainly looked like he could have been Bruce's. Tall, prominent chin, looked kind of sullen.

"This may sound crazy, but what's your name and who's your mother?" Bruce asked.

"It does sound crazy," Ethan said, in a tone that suggested he thought his parents were usually kind of crazy. "I'm Ethan. Mom's name is Quinn but she's bitchier in the mornings, so I figured I'd hit you up first."

He eyed his father up and down. "How old are you?"

Bruce had a good poker face, but he was still pretty clearly surprised about the mother's identity. "Eighteen. Welcome to the insanity of Fandom. And don't talk about your mother like that."

... He could see it being true, though. He didn't figure Quinn was the most cheerful morning person.

"But I was using it as an adjective, not as a noun." Ethan had gotten the 'don't talk about your mother/father that way' lecture before, and once in a great while this argument worked. "It's an honest evaluation."

He was disappointed not to be older than his father, and that probably showed. "I'm sixteen. And as tall as you."

Close, but not quite.

"Almost. And I'm barefoot," Bruce pointed out. "And I'm the one with twenty dollars, so you should rethink your argument about the honest evaluation."

"Daaaad."

Okay, that wasn't very dignified. Ethan swallowed and used his most patient tone. "I shouldn't have said that about Mom," he admitted, and left off the even if it was true. "So, you'll help me out?"

"Sure," Bruce said, walking to his desk to grab his wallet and pull out a twenty. "I'd suggest getting your breakfast before tracking your mother down. That should give her a little time to be calmer than she might be otherwise." It was important to note that Bruce didn't say she might be bitchy.

And, hopefully, that would give Quinn some extra time to getherself out of any kind of, ahem, personal situation she might be in after last night. With someone who wasn't Ethan's father. There was no good that could possibly come of that.

[OOC: I'm kind of slow the rest of the afternoon!]

"Done," Ethan promised, pocketing the money. (Like he was going to go out of his way to spend more time with his parents.) "I'll catch up with one of you later on."

[OOC: NP! Maybe he can find his mom tonight?]

"If you don't, I'll find you," Bruce warned.
