Room 513, Saturday morning

Mar 31, 2012 07:47

All in all, it had been a good night. Bruce had a very nice date, won the biggest crown of his high school career, received a strategic breakdown on how to fight beings with gravity powers (you never know when that might be useful), and afterwards... Well, poor Chuck was exiled somewhere but Bruce wasn't alone in the room ( Read more... )

In general, Kate was an early riser. Habit borne of being Voron's daughter. But that didn't mean she was awake enough to remember Wesley's warning's about future children and Prom right at this moment.

There was awake, and there was... that level of awake.

"It's early," she told him. Because somehow, it needed to be said. "Why am I surprised you're awake?"

"Probably because you're still getting to know me and my crazy schedule," Bruce said. "I'm probably more surprised that I know someone who wakes up nearly as early as me."

"I don't sleep much." But she was still warm and comfortable, and not entirely inclined to move other than to stretch and check out his room a little better now she wasn't thinking of other things.

"Is your roommate going to be back?" Presumably at some point, she realised, but anytime soon?

"Probably not until the regular sleepers are waking up," Bruce said. "So there's no rush here."

Well, maybe a little rush. "Although, has anyone warned you about the weekend after Prom?"

"You'll regret drinking the punch?" No one had told her that, but it seemed a valid warning.

Actually, Wes had told her the children appeared on Valentine's day, so Prom weekend hadn't particularly worried her.

"I avoided it, so I'm not too worried about that," Bruce said. "Something weird always seems to happen. Two years ago, I had a kid from the future show up. Last year, most of the students turned into children. I have no idea what's going to happen this year, but I'm waiting for something."

"... Something."

Kate checked herself, like she wouldn't have noticed if she'd been eight, or sprouted a tail, or whatever else.

The something was probably more likely to be the yelling from the corridor. Because clearly the best way to find someone who it turned out was not in their own room was to make a hell of a lot of noise and hope they investigated. At whatever time in the morning this was. Too early for most people, was what it was.

"We have good timing," Bruce said. "That sure sounds like something."

It sure did.

"Kaaaate, you have to be somewhere. Get out here okay, I am not dealing with this on my own." This being the bundle of small wriggly child she was hauling along the corridor with her. There was only so far Julie's appreciation for her guardian went.

"I guess I got lucky. Sounds like it's for you," Bruce teased Kate. "Um. Do you need any regular clothes?"

Kate winced, half-wondering if it was possible to just hide from this, until she heard another muffled repetition of her name.

"A shirt, might be good." Trying to get her dress back on just didn't appeal. Underwear though, she should probably find that, and started an attempt at working out where that'd gone. "You'll get it back, I promise."

Bruce walked over to his closet to get a good, long shirt - which was easy since he was tall - and grabbed a shirt. "Here you go. Try not go get blood on it if it's that kind of something."

He doubted that was the case, but you could never be too sure.

...

Kate shook her head, accepting it. "I stick to destroying my own clothes," she assured him as she pulled it on, untucked her hair and took a preparatory breath.

"It doesn't sound violent." Yet. Julie was influenced by Kate, so it wasn't off the table.

"Not really, no," Bruce said. "Still, let me know if you'd like any help."

Door open. How long would it take for Julie to gravitate that way?

"Where are your clothes?"

Not long, apparently.

The kid in Julie's arms was less interested in her state of dress, and more in stretching out at her with a chirpily repeated, "Found found fouuuund."

Enjoy your headache, Kate.
