Corgis!

So, I'm taking care of Marquis the corgi for a week. I think I successfully changed my user icon to be his picture. It was a long and arduous process that involved me actually reading the "help" section on a computer program.

Not that I'm obsessed or anything.

Marquis is a very friendly dog. He barely barks at all and he approaches complete strangers and demands a head scratch. Of course, he also had to approach the guy sitting on a doorstep with his potato chips and mountain dew to demand some love (and possibly a handout). Of course, he and Bailey still don't really quite gel. His last visit here Bailey kept trying to hump him! Yeah...it's a dog thing, that's why I don't understand. Oh, I just startled him by dropping my laptop.

Marquis takes pills because he has a thyroid problem. Dogs don't tend to be crazy about pills, so we have to wrap them in cheese squares. Then not only does he eat them without spitting out the pills, but you can make them sit to get them. That's one thing I haven't tried at work yet. Though I've tried everything else (hiding pills in pudding, ice cream, applesauce, etc.). We use one of those machines that dispenses each pill in its little individual labelled package. It does cut down on medication errors, but sometimes things happen with the pills, like you find a package with 2 pills or no pill at all. One day, one of my co-workers was having a bad day, trying to get her meds out, and was trying to squeeze a pill out of a package. Oddly enough, the pill shot out right into the patient's mouth and the patient swallowed it. I think that's the sort of random coincidence that happens about one time in 10 years of working as a nurse.

Hopefully eventually I will get my own dog, but for now I'm having fun dog sitting. Amy goes to visit her boyfriend about one week each month, so we have a corgi contract. Soon we'll go for a walk and show him off to the neighborhood (just hopefully avoiding the construction site next door).

Me = dog geek
