I suppose I should post in 2007, don't you think? I'm still around and still in Chicago and still glad I made the move. I do still miss the diner, though.

I'll place it behind this cut to give all of you the choice to read it...or not...but there are pictures!

It's been ages since I last posted. All is well, except for the cold (missing my weather reports, were you?) I had the day off today, so I thought I'd go walk to the record store and get some lunch or something like that, but I turned around and came back home after walking a few blocks. The wind! The cold! The thermometer on a sign I walked by told me the air temperature was 15 and I'm sure the wind chill was however colder. To make this even more exciting, the high over the weekend isn't supposed to get above 10. The buses better come when they're supposed to, especially since I start at the new store and have to transfer. Good timing. I already want my one bus commute back and I haven't even lost it yet!

Days this cold are days I wish I had a car again. I don't wish it that much because, really, I don't need it and I'm glad I don't have to worry about parking and gas and insurance and all of that. Still, now that winter has finally arrived, I wouldn't have minded it today. I miss it when food shopping too, although the granny cart is awesome.

I'm already done bitching about the moving to another store thing, by the way. It's very possible that it will be for the best.

Living in the city has given a boost to my show-going life. Let's see, since I've been here, I've seen Bob twice, A Silver Mt. Zion, Tortoise, Built to Spill, Yo La Tengo, Mission of Burma, and Deerhoof. That's a lot for me! I'm liking the generally smaller places these bands play as opposed to the larger ones they would play in NY, and I'm very much liking the fact that I can just walk to many of these venues or, at worst, take a bus ride. Quite a change from the 2 hour drive I had previously. I'm also very excited to see the reunited Sebadoh in March, as well as Blonde Redhead (though not as excited as Katelyn is!) and Low in April. I might sneak out to a few others as well...we'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of Bob Pollard (as I often do), it's more than sad that he's declared an indefinite break from touring. The four shows I saw this year were really fantastic and he looked and sounded great (not to mention the crazy grey hair!) The last show I saw, on the aborted Normal Happiness tour, was maybe the best yet with a great mix of songs and a band who showed they'd been playing together for a little while now. They played Drag Days! And they played Subspace Biographies and Ghosts of a Different Dream and No Sky and lots of new stuff, including a couple of excellent Keene Brothers songs. Though most people have stopped caring, there are a number of us who can't wait until Bob changes his mind...again...

Can you find me in this crowd as I wait for Uncle Bob?

It's kind of cute to see a big city rally around one team the way that Chicago is rallying around the Bears. I still think The Colts will win, though.

That's all I've got for now. Maybe I'll be back again soon...

Until then, Josh and I bid you farewell...
