Another semester has started, and I'm moved back into my dorm and going to classes again.
I'm in the same dorm room with the same girl, Bianca. I don't want it to look just the same as last year, though, so I've collected a whole bunch of cool fanart I found on Tumblr (it's mostly Pokemon and Venture Bros, of course) and I'm going to print the pictures out and frame them and make them look classy.
I didn't buy much for the dorm this year, besides the typical stuff like paper towels and hand soap and lots of snacks. I did get myself a big cork board, and I might get a new white board too, since the one I have is a little warped and it won't stay stuck to the wall. I didn't get many school supplies either, since I have such a huge store of leftover supplies from previous years, but I did get an iCarly folder and a cute little composition book with book on the cover of it, to be my idea book for my writing capstone next semester.
I don't have a writing class this semester, which will be weird. The only English class I have is Modern Drama, a lit class where we only read plays. It's surprisingly crowded, and I know a lot of people in the class, so it's nice to see familiar faces. I've had this same professor twice before, in a drama writing class and another literature class, so I've already read/watched the movies of half the plays we're studying. I have decided yet if that'll make this class easier or a bit annoying.
I have an Astronomy course for my science credit, the last gen-ed I have to take. I loved my Astronomy class back in 11th grade, and I'm looking forward to re-learning this stuff. My other classes are all for that media minor I'm trying to get. (I still have to have someone approve my customized course list, better get on that.) Media Design Foundations is basically a graphic design course, and it looks like a lot of fun. We have to keep a Creativity Journal, but I'm not sure if it's electronic or a physical journal. Tomorrow I have Video Production, which isn't something I'm really interested in, but I guess if I want to write for television it might be helpful to know something about how cameras and technical devices work. I have a two-and-a-half hour film studies class on Tuesday afternoons. I haven't taken a legit film studies class, but have heard all about them from my FFA friends, so I'm excited for this one. It seems a bit on the basic side, though, which could be relaxing or boring, I'll have to wait and see how the first meeting goes tomorrow.
There's a new student center on campus. It has a lot of meeting rooms and office spaces for student groups, a gym with a pretty good selection of equipment (I might try out the treadmills later this week, if it isn't too crowded), and the new cafeteria. The school is in a contract with a food services company, so we can't have the cool restaurants like a McDonalds or a Taco Bell or a Chik-Fil-A, but the food company really stepped up their game and everything looks restaurant-quality. There are little themed areas where you can order custom burritos or panini's or stir fry. I got pre-made stuff from the burger corner, just a grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings, but they were both fantastic.
The library was renovated over the summer. We have new ceiling tiles and this big shiny new front desk with a ton of storage space. It's higher than the old desk, though, and I don't think I'll be able to adapt to climbing up the higher swivel chairs. We don't have our computers installed yet, but maybe they'll be working tomorrow. I missed the library a lot over the summer, so I'll be happy there whatever happens.
I've been in a good mood all day, actually, considering that I started my period, woke up with a sore throat, spent most of the day being tired/hungry/cold, and fought with making my white board stay on the wall. I'm just really glad to be back at school.
