Car shipping pricing changes from season-to-season

Customers may notice that there are various pricing fluctuations for auto transport from season-to-season. On average, there may be an additional 100-300$ up charge for car deliveries that is added to the final bill. Why is this the case?

Auto transport companies deliver cars from state to state whether it is raining or snowing, but there are many factors that can increase service charges depending on the season.

Here are some reasons why there are seasonal changes in auto transport pricing:

Winter season (December through March)

In January, the blistering cold and icy frozen roads make the freeways slippery for cars and truck drivers. There are also many college students who want to travel home across the state to their families. Some may want to take their cars with them, and they do not want to drive all the way across the country.

A lot of people want to travel where it is nice and warm to places like Florida during the winter, and they may want to take their cars also. Even though the demand for transport services is not as high as summer, there is still demand for transport during these cold winter months.

Transport drivers also need to be at home with their families for winter holidays like Christmas and New Years, so the companies may not have enough drivers to send out during these holidays. The icy roads may cause road closures and delays for carriers, making the transport get behind schedule.

Therefore, the transport costs become higher during the holidays and throughout the winter season. There may be added fees and sometimes makes the whole transport service more expensive.

Spring Season (March To June)

Spring is also a season where auto transport starts to become higher in demand, with the weather warming up and people wanting to travel around to other states.

With higher demand, the auto transport companies run out of space in their trailers and trucks. The customers may have to look through multiple companies, but running out of space means that they need to pay extra fees to find a last minute carrier.

Because of these reasons, the costs become more expensive during Spring and can add a few hundred more dollars for auto shipping.

Summer Season (June to September)

Summer season is the busiest time of the year for auto transport companies. These months are the peak months where customers book transport for their vehicles.

Because of this reason, the customers should book the services months before when they are shipping in the summer. A lot of the main pick-up points are high traffic areas in main cities, so it may mean that there may not be enough space for your vehicle.

It is recommended to avoid these high demand areas and try to pick a less popular pick-up location if possible. A lot of people move in the summer, so this may be another reason why transport services are very popular in the summer season.
