I owe
mrv3000 for this one, because it struck in response to her identifying a dilemma: she loves Sleepy Hollow's Abbie as a character, but has trouble with its "incredibly ridiculous plot."
At which point I had to comment that, not only do I freely admit that it is incredibly ridiculous, but that for my purposes, this is a feature, not a bug.
Not that any old cracktastically over-the-top will do it for me, but cracktastically over-the-top with fantastic well-acted characters? Yeah. Um. I just described at least 2/3 of my major fandoms over the last 20+ years. Those of you who've known me for any significant portion of that time are probably snickering at the fact that I've just now processed this particular insight, as such. :-)
On the subject of SH, incidentally, I was not expecting it to be quite so gloriously, cracktastically preposterous. And it's making me all kinds of happy, because even if NBC's Dracula fails to live up to the gloriously, cracktastically preposterous promise of its trailers, I'm going to be all over this one for the foreseeable future. Abbie is absolutely wonderful, and Crane is close behind, and Katrina is all mysterious but I'm very curious to know more about her, and Jenny is apparently Sarah Connor, and Irving is intriguing. And. People. Who are awesome.
And who are living in a whirlwind of ridiculous and calling it as they see it, while dealing with it as the reality it nonetheless is. You want the recipe to keep my eyeballs every single week, that's it.
