I finished with just over 65K.
The plot as such hasn't changed much, but I got rid of a few scenes that didn't work any more and replaced them with ones that fit the new developments. Namely the late arrival of a character on the page. I hadn't planned on granting Jamie's parents' an appearance, but his dad suddenly arrived on the scene, and when Jamie, Matt and Nina invited him for lunch I couldn't refuse them. I owe him a lot, and I think that the ending will be even better because he arrived. Also, Jamie's dad added a nice twist for Matt.
I have made a decision about the historical chapters of the novel, which I didn't tackle during NaNo because a) I already have one of them finished and didn't want to use it by cheating and 2) I didn't have time to research the other one which was a late addition when I read about Bernardino. So, here we are. The original idea was to add three historical chaoters for both Nina and Matt to shed some light on their biographies, but as the story progressed I found myself telling the other characters those stories in a summarised version and it occurred to me that people might not want to read the full chapters. Also, these full chapters might only serve to distract from the main plot about forgiveness. My decision is to give Nina the episode in Pompeii and Matt the one in New Mexico and weave parts of these threads into the main story. That shouldn't be too distracting, but still offer some insight into the development of the characters. Thoughts?
Oh, and I made a collage with photos of the actors that I've cast in the roles of the characters.
