The pointlessness of my daily life

Vegas was pretty good. City Center is really amazing, and it's not even finished yet. The Veer Towers alone are spectacular. The Aria is NOT a hotel for the common throng -- the only reason we stayed there is Mom gets comps; otherwise, it's gigantically out of any normal person's price range (although to be honest, the rooms are fairly normal priced; it's the cost of EVERYTHING ELSE there -- all the restaurants are upscale; even the buffet serves steak and lobster).

I've noticed lately that every time there's a music category on Jeopardy! I can question answers which seem to me to be extremely fundamental while they appear to baffle the panel. An answer like "His last charted hit, 'You'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive,' was ironically released after his death on December 31, 1959." Well, duh. And I ran the entire category "King and Country" (the answers were based on Elvis and country music). Sure, I can't answer anything about science or history, but I know that music!

I call this one the "Chess tree." As you can see, there's a knight with two rooks.

Still rebuilding my music library, but have had the chance to at least add a number of things I didn't have there before -- and found a few MP3s on old backup discs that I'd completely forgotten. Unfortunately, I haven't found the MP3s of Mike (Nesmith), John & Bill doing "How Can You Kiss Me?" and "Just A Little Love." I got my original analog recordings of those directly from an old 45, and they were some of the very best copies known in Monkees fandom (at least, so I was told by someone collecting such rare and hard to find tracks)... I hope I can find the original tape somewhere in my collection of stuff (there's a reason I never get rid of anything, I suppose).

I spent most of my trip listening to several weeks' worth of "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!" which had been stacking up in my podcasts -- now I'm all caught up. Lots of laughing out loud in airports and at work (listening to the last few).

Then I finally listened to (Christian) Kane's new EP, which I downloaded from iTunes, and I am sadly disappointed. Now, I know it's hard for Americana artists, and it's been nearly ten years since he released "Kane," his first album, and in all that time Kane has only managed to release one other CD, so I know it's tough. But his new music is just... so... mainstream. *sigh*

My cat, just 'cause (playing with closeup modes on the camera):
