It's Springtime!

((OOC: Post set for this week. Not to be confused with the backdated ones we're working on for Laurian's rescue, hence the more cheerful attitude.)) ^_^The seasons are always changing, with the rainy seasons and the dry seasons, the windy seasons and the seasons for various plants. But the changes in New Hampshire were more drastic than what ( Read more... )

Shizuru loved gardens, if only for the fact that the day she first met Natsuki, was in a garden. Since that first meeting Shizuru had spent quite a bit of time with her most important person in the garden of Fuuka Gakuen, and it made sense that she wanted to find a similar place here, if only to bask in the memories of happier more innocent times with Natsuki.

Walking carefully and gracefully among the flowers Shizuru let her thoughts wander, for once letting them free instead of trying to put on such a happy mask to the world. It was while her mind was wandering did she nearly miss the presence of someone else nearby in the dirt with the flowers.

"It's such a relief to feel the weather change and the flowers bloom again isn't it?" Shizuru remarked quietly simply enjoying the outdoors, but now with some light conversation.

"Hn?" Blue eyes peered out from underneath the big, floppy sun hat to take in the sight of a new student. "Oh!", the short brunette exclaimed. "Yeah, I like it when it's warm. The cold weather, it's pretty too, I think. But! Nothing better, than all the butterflies and the flowers and the springtime."

She gently placed her spade on the ground next to a few small pouches of special seeds, standing and turning to face the new girl. "I'm Kate," she cheerfully introduced herself. "Who are you? You're new, aren't you?"

Shizuru smiled a serene smile, her heart feeling a bit lighter in the surrounding emerging beauty, "yes, I just transfered here, I'm Fujino Shizuru, but I'd be delighted if you called me just Shizuru."

After a small pause the name Kate rang a small bell in her head, it was a long shot but her instinct said that it was the same Kate as mentioned before, and her instincts were rarely wrong. (especially when guided by the omniscient authors!)

"You wouldn't happen to know a Liz Riley would you?" Shizuru asked looking at Kate inquisitively, "she tried quite hard to make sure me and my...roommate...were settled in, and she mentioned a Kate..."

Katelyn nodded at the instruction and smiled a gentle, friendly smile in return. But the short girl positively beamed once the new student said she recalled her name.

"Yeah, I'm her Kate," she happily agreed, acknowledging that she was the same 'Kate' Shizuru had heard of. "That was Liz," she cheerfully explained. "She's really sweet. She always tries her very best, to welcome all the new peoples here." The very though of Liz made her smile, naturally, but even more so was the fact that she was so important to her that she was brought up the very first time these two classmates met.

"So, you have a roommate already," she repeated aloud. Her attention had been called to that word because of the hesitant pauses. Not having met her yet, the curious brunette used that tidbit to continue chatting. "Do you like her so far? What's she like?"

Shizuru's smile grew wider at the way Kate referred to herself as Liz's Kate, it was a small little action that put a pang of longing in her own heart. She had been calling Natsuki "hers" for a long time, but Natsuki had never once acknowledged it, but here was, what had to be a couple, returning eachother's sentiments. It actually made her jealous on the inside, but she didn't grudge them their happiness ( ... )

The short brunette was the friendly, talkative sort, but her people skills were often lacking. She knew that this Natsuki girl was a very special friend, but Kate was too naive to really understand what Shizuru was trying to say. "That's, so really great," she said with a chipper look on her face, taking things at face value and blissfully ignorant of the girl's unrequited love. "It's, a good thing, when you're not all alone. When you already know someone."

A bluebird fluttered down from a tree branch as she spoke. "When I first came here, I didn't know anybody," she said as she extended a finger for her feathered friend to perch on. "I felt so lost, until someone offered to help me." Innocent blue eyes looked up at the taller girl. "Let me know if you need anything. Okay?" She flashed her a friendly smile. "I'll, try to help out, if I can."

"Of course," Shizuru replied instantly soothed of her mistake in letting down her mask as she realized her expression went unnoticed. If it had been noticed she would have had to explain, and the older girl just wanted to enjoy some time where her feelings didn't plague her thoughts, and this was already dangerously close to bringing her melancholy back.

But the smile remained because it was hard to drop into such depression when faced with such innocence, not to mention the beauty of the place around her. It seemed her destination did what she hoped it would and chased away certain thoughts.

"Since Natsuki and I are both new I'm sure we'll need help, and I'll come to you and Liz if I need any help at all."

Kate nodded happily as she heard that Shizuru and Natsuki might come to visit some time. It was always nice making new friends, and it always felt good to help people out when you could. "Oh!" An idea just struck her as she stood there, talking with her newest classmate. "Maybe...do you think you could help me with something? While you're here?

The girl turned back to the beauty of the budding garden and to the freshly tilled earth. "What kind of flowers do you like?" She then glanced down at the gardening tools and loose soil to make the question seem a little less random. "I wanna grow some different things this year. But! I don't know...what kinds of flowers everyone would like?"

"Oh, hmm," Shizuru looked at the seeds with a slight quizzical expression, "I'd love to help, but I'm afraid while I enjoy gardens, I don't know much about flowers, especially types." Shizuru was the type of person people assumed knew everything that had to do with the gentle arts, but in reality she was just able to appear so, not actually know them.

"I do like purple, and Natsuki loved blue, so perhaps some purple and blue flowers?" Shizuru said, somewhat thinking out loud as she tried to remember what she could about flowers.

"It's okay," Kate reassured her. "I know more kinds of plants, I think, than most of the people here." But her classmate's words did spark some ideas. "I can do purple and blue," she said. "I like the color blue too, a lot myself."

"Hmm," the younger girl said after a moment to think. "Chamalla, it's a really pretty purple flower, with these little white streaks in the middle. And...Giraluna, I think. That one is blue, and it blooms at the same time in the year." She nodded, happy with her choices. "They will look really nice together, I think. Yeah, I'll plant both of those, right here for you. It'll look really nice..."
