The best thing about having a roommate like Liz was that you knew all sorts of things about what went on at school, especially birthdays as her loving friend always did her best to give others the absolute perfect gift. As she walked up the stairs to the third floor, Kate grinned as she silently corrected herself. That wasn't the best thing about

At the moment, she was doing that last part, the vital part of being a good teacher. A good teacher always prepared their lessons, though preparing lessons took time. Though the knock provided the distraction she needed at the moment. Working behind a desk to scribble out notes on paper gave her a headache. And maybe Soulfire had returned from her 'shopping'. The witch had promised a special night tonight, and that alone was the reason Dayenne knew another year had passed and today was her birthday.
Dayenne had to admit; she felt a disappointed for a moment when her eyes fell on Katelyn instead of Soulfire. But it wasn't shown on her face and Dayenne was old enough to hide the disappointment as well. She smiled down at her student who had a gift for her one subject, but was terrible at the other.
"Katelyn. Good afternoon. Can I help you with something?"

The box was presented to her from behind her back. It was a simple brown box without much decoration, since Katelyn knew Dayenne to be a fairly practical person. "This...it's for you," she said as the gift was handed to the professor. Inside was a handmade necklace of small stones polished to look almost like pearls or small gems, as beautiful as Katelyn could make it despite being made of such natural materials.
It also bore the markings of Druidic magic, something seldom shared with those outside of her order. A pendant hung from the necklace, a small crescent moon etched decoratively onto it's surface. This medallion also radiated a very faint aura, hard to notice except for those already closely attuned to Nature. "I hope...that you like it," the younger girl said quietly as she watched on, hoping that Dayenne would consider it something both pretty and useful.
((OOC: Probably something like Animal Empathy +5, Speak with Animals 1x/day and Charm Animal 1x/day, if you wanted to stat it out.)) ^__^

"But thank you. I'm curious to what is inside." Dayenne opened the box to see the real gift Katelyn had given her. She stared at the beauty lying in the simple box, speechless for a long time.
"Thank you," she finally said in an awed voice. "That is... you really didn't have to do that, you know..."
OOC: So... an amulet with things she can already more or less do in her ranger-way? =P It might not be magical, and she cannot really talk to animals, but she and animals can understand each other, so... ^^;

"I got it for you," she explained, "because it's your birthday. Right? Or..." Once again, doubt began to creep into her mind. "Did I get it wrong?"
((OOC: Well, to do those same things better. Plus I suppose she could use those spells on someone else if she needed, like Kate's doing with Liz in the other thread?
The necklace itself was the main gift, really. But to keep the same thing from happening here as what happened with Rei on Laurian's birthday Kate put her own special touches on it.))

She smiled again and it seemed to be an almost hesitant smile, oddly out of place for someone always in command and always demanding respect. "I'm sure it'll look great on some of the dresses I have."

"I...wasn't sure if it was today or not," the schoolgirl continued. "But that's what I heard. And, I wanted to make something nice for you if it was. Because birthdays should be really, really special."

She looked up again. "But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate this gift. I promise you, I'll treasure it. Thanks."
