The other day, when my sister was here for dinner and helping me out with Adrian, we were outside on the porch when she noticed we had two butterfly cocoons on our front porch. (Well, one of them is on a flowerpot on our porch, but whatever.) We talked about it, and I genuinely had no clue when I could expect them to open and we'd have butterflies. I expected it to be a while.

She was here again today, because we went to paint pottery. We were standing outside again when she noticed that one of them had opened, and a butterfly still clung to the spot where it had been, probably because it was still exhausted. I don't know how to explain how a butterfly looks tired, but this one did.

We have pictures, I'll post those when I get them (we actually took them with Dad's camera), but I still feel like an idiot. I mean, how long have I had cocoons out there and I never noticed them?
