Rating: PG-13
Series: G1
Pairings/Prompt: G1: Red Alert/Megatron - trick - betrayal of the worst kind
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: As per usual, the good things in life are not mine to have, but belong to someone else... in this case Hasbro, Takara and IDW and anyone else I’ve forgotten…
Authors Notes: I had fun doing the prowlxjazz Anniversary Challenge, if no one else enjoyed reading them. So when tf_rare_pairing announced their October challenge, I thought I might try something similar. Though this is going to be different as I have to write on a daily basis again. But that was fun when I did it before ( both times). So yeah… wish the ever-more-eccentric one luck?
Feedback makes friends. Flames dealt with by the masters of paranoia and fire, Red Alert and Inferno

Red Alert was quiet once he returned to the Ark after the Nevagator incident.  Most put it down to embarrassment over what had happened, but that wasn’t the truth.  He was embarrassed, but more embarrassed that his secret had been unearthed by Starscream.  Though, with his logic circuits compromised, it wasn’t hard for Starscream to find out anything he wanted.  And he was scared of the repercussions.  Because he knew that Starscream would tell Megatron.

Megatron.

One mech he never wanted to meet again.  He’d been lucky once he’d joined the Autobots, his role being more behind the scenes.  He was sure that Megatron knew where he was, but the mech had made no attempt to get him back.  Of course, now everything might change.  And that scared him.  Mostly because he wasn’t sure how he could explain himself.

The call came when he was least expecting it.  Though, in retrospect, he should have figured it was the best time for him to be contacted.  He was working the night shift in the security center, and it was the easiest time to catch him on his own.
“Red Alert.” The deep voice drawling his name sent a shiver down his spinal strut.  Megatron had contacted him on a long-disused comm frequency.
“Megatron…”
“We need to meet.” Trust Megatron to get straight to the point.
“Yes.” Red Alert agreed reluctantly.  Megatron stated a time and place and closed the commline.  There were no pleasantries, something which Red Alert did expect.  He stared at his monitors, feeling incredibly unsafe.  But he still started making plans as to how he could get away to meet Megatron without letting anyone know.  It was bad enough Starscream, and now Megatron (and possibly the rest of the Decepticons if he let his paranoia run away with him) knew, but he couldn’t stand the thought of any Autobot knowing.

The time came quicker than he wanted, and he found himself pacing around the meeting area, having arrived early to make sure there were no traps.
“There are no traps.” Megatron landed.  Red Alert flinched, once again reminded of their size difference.  Before, it had been an attraction.  Now, it was a disadvantage.
“Megatron.”
“Red Alert.” Megatron crossed to stand in front of the smaller mech.  Red Alert refused to quake, but he didn’t shiver.
“Why did you not tell me?” Through his years of knowing Megatron meant that he could hear the hurt in that powerful voice.
“I…”
“You betrayed me in the worst way possible.” Megatron hissed.  “You took our sparkling, our creation and raised them an Autobot.”
“You threw me out.” Red Alert hissed back.  Megatron looked startled, as though he hadn’t expected Red Alert to defend himself.  “I only found out I was sparked when I joined the Autobots.”
“But…”
“But nothing.” Red Alert cut in, stepping forward and forcing Megatron to back up a pace.  “I couldn’t exactly tell them who sparked me, could I?  Can you imagine if I’d have said that the leader of the Decepticons had sparked me and then threw me out?”
“I didn’t even know!” Megatron protested.
“But you still threw me out.” Red Alert smiled bitterly.  “Because I didn’t want any part of the war you were starting.”
“You joined the Autobots.”
“Because I had no other choice.  I couldn’t come crawling back to you, you’d made that perfectly clear.” Megatron’s optics widened as he remembered the conversation they’d had before he’d physically thrown Red Alert out of their apartment.
“Our sparkling?”
“Survived.  Thankfully.” He’d been short on energon when he joined the Autobots, and hadn’t known he was sparked.  He shuddered to think how much damage he could have done to his… their sparkling had he not made himself known to the Autobots.  Megatron seemed relieved and relaxed a little.
“I would like to meet him.”
“Her.” Red Alert corrected.  “And she’s on Cybertron.” He sighed.  “It was considered the best option once they found out I was sparked.  She was left with Elita-1.” He wrapped his arms around himself.  He hated being reminded that he hadn’t been the one to bring up his sparkling.  Their sparkling.
“Tell me her name.” Megatron all but demanded.  Red Alert shook his head.  He couldn’t.  He didn’t know it himself, didn’t make an effort to find out because he couldn’t bear knowing what his creation was going through.
“I can’t.  I don’t know her name.” He paused, glaring up at Megatron.  “And I don’t want to know.  I dread finding out if she lives or dies.” Megatron backed down at that, thinking.
“Perhaps you are right.”
“I’m always right, you know that.” Red Alert sniped back, so reminiscent of what he had been like before Megatron had abandoned him that Megatron was shocked.
“There are ways we can solve this…”
