With all the road construction around the Med Center, Mutual of Omaha, the North Freeway and my own neighborhood, driving anywhere is akin to being in a real life video game - can you help wee little Bongo reach his destination in the shortest amount of time possible? Everytime I figure out an alternate route, it changes again the next day. Maddening!
Last night was the start of our six-week dog training session, the first class held sans dogs. Megan will likely be the smallest of the group and hopefully won't embarrass me too much by also being the baddest. The trainer, Tiffany, seems cool and plans to really focus on eliminating jumping, play biting and pulling -- all behaviors we really need to work on with the little mutt. She means well but I'd rather not be covered in red scratches everytime I come home.
Ironically, we never had these problems with our big dogs. M & G never jumped up on us or other people, they saved all their play biting for each other and though Greta pulled, Miranda never did. In fact, she was fully trained when we adopted her although I'm pretty sure that someone used fear as a motivator rather than positive reinforcement. Despite her few neuroses, especially in the early days, she was about as perfect a dog can be. I'm afraid there'll never be another like her, with the strong bond we shared, in my lifetime. That said, I hate to compare and try not to do it very often. Megan has a lot of great qualities and is an eager-to-please fast learner so the potential is there with more time, consistency and patience. Having another canine companion in a couple of months might help, too.
The silver shoe quest continues tonight at Westroads - wish me luck ...
Thanks to iTunes, I've just discovered that Thom Yorke released
a solo album yesterday. I had no idea! :-O
