Lest anyone think that I've given up volunteer work now that I've got a little dog to call my own, rest assured 'tis not the case. While Bruce stayed home this Sunday to work on rebuilding the patio, I was at the NHS by 7:45am. Since most of the morning was spent shuttling dogs back and forth to playgroup, I stayed on an extra hour to walk my favorites. There was Cowboy - a Red Heeler transferred in from a shelter in Iowa, Cinder - a really gentle Akita mix picked up as a stray in South Omaha, and Teka - a tiny 11 lb. Min Pin that makes Megan seem huge by comparison. The leaving wasn't quite as sad this time knowing that there was someone at home waiting for me.
I could bore everyone to tears (and probably will before it's all over) describing her antics but she's been an absolute doll and a joy to have around. It amazes me everyday how well-adjusted she is and how quickly she learns. Already, she's sleeping on a pet bed at night instead of in her kennel. Since she's entered my life, we've been traversing the length of Minne Lusa Blvd 1-3 times per day, meeting our neighbors and listening to more music.
Speaking of the iPod which is still relatively new to me, it's opened up a whole different way of absorbing music; with guidance, the songs choose you in a sense. For example, who would have guessed that Radiohead's Kid A, Lucinda Williams' Words Fell and Morphine's Souvenir would sound so good back to back? But they do. And songs previously unnoticed such as Dash 7 by Wilco and Sandusky by Uncle Tupelo have suddenly been discovered.
