I would like to think that it is librarians who turn patrons on or that the information we provide inflames people's passion for learning. But I know a more likely explanation is that the library itself raises the libido. The mix of public and private spaces inspires both esoteric and erotic thoughts. For some couples, the idea of having illicit sex in a secluded part of the library - while people mill about nearby - is just too tempting to resist. Millions of dollars are being made by pharmaceutical companies selling products to induce sexual urges. If the arousal factor of libraries could be proven, couples could save a lot of money. Instead of picking up a packet of Viagra, they could just check out a study carrel in the library. Couples need only be directed to the library's geology section, where evidently the earth moves in a variety of ways.
