Inquiring Minds Want to Know

We rarely see the SGA team get captured by anyone except the Wraith whereas SG-1 seemed to get captured every week. :) I read a discussion once about what would have happened to Sam if she'd been captured in "reality."

Sheppard's team gets captured quite often in fanfic.

What do you think would "really" happen to Teyla?

I'm especially interested in ( Read more... )

sga, today's question

To be honest you can write it anyway you wish to. Torturing each team member has been done, I've read realistic stories where each member was beaten.

Who's the target of the interrogation and who is perceived as the strongest et el? If John is the target he's other on the receiving end of more torture or threatened or forced to witness his team's interrogation.

What if because of the society they've visited, Teyla's viewed as the strongest? It can happen...then you have the same situation as John's.

The veiled threat of rape has been used in fics and that's been effective. I've read stories where any of the male remembers think about it before or after being threatened by the interrogator as a means to get them to talk.

On the reversal, I've read Gen where Ronon and Teyla are well aware that John/Rodney are at risk of bing sold as a sex slaves which in turn is rape and that threat has been used as cohesion.

I typically won't read anything that "focuses" on rape of any Team member, but illusions are realistic.

Typically I treat Teyla as an equal to a point and BUT, avoid the subject of rape. If I were to really use that threat, I'd go more the route of my characters thinking about it, or havening the main bad guy allude to it.

The best instance of Teyla being raped in order to save her friends was sky pig's "The Known World"

In that it was off screen to and there was an aftermath to it, since Teyla wanted to keep it away from her Team mates because she did it to protect them.

I hope this wasn't much of a ramble, I'm sure you'll get more insight from others.

I've read that fic, and it's one of the few that addressed it and did so well. And while I'm all about the whump, there are some places that I won't go, and rape is one of them. I don't care for damage that can't be undone, and the repercussions of something like that are devastating.

I started reading a fic recently (one with no warnings) with the beginnings of John being raped. I don't know how far it went (if it actually happened) because I immediately stopped reading. I don't want someone to react that way to something I've written. But I still want realism. Rape is about power, and I have a hard time accepting that it wouldn't be used to punish/pressure the other members of the team.

I guess I'm still seeking creative ways to explain why it hasn't/wouldn't happen.
