Would you rather die, eaten by sharks, or over 3 months in a hospital bed with a million tubes sticking out of you?

(you know which one I'd pick. haha)

ICU -- 2 days in and I'm less overwhelmed than I thought I would be - ok, it's cos emergencies don't happen like Greys anatomy, there arent flashing lights and if there's an alarm called its usually just one person who has to run somewhere - I am still a useless student though, and I couldn't even rmb all my heart failure drugs yesterday -_-" -- if you had asked me how to manage a uterine scar rupture during delivery of a baby i'd give you a really good answer though -- it just goes to show how much you forget even in a year! :(

Anyway. Death.

People think medicine is about saving lives, and most of the time even you believe it, but having gritty stuff like walking down the corridor next to the trolley holding the patient who just was CTed for a confirmed brain infarct - the type that has a dodgy fix and depends on if the surgeons are feeling heroic or not but poor recovery overall - who is now intubated and has the million tubes coming out of her, and then you bump into her relatives, and having them break down in front of you makes you kinda think, this is a really shit job.
