Chapter 2

As Emma felt the warmth of Jenny’s lips on hers, she was absolutely shocked by the sensations it was invoking in her. The electricity that ran through her body totally terrified her, which was why she immediately pushed Jenny away.

“What the hell was that?” Emma asked startled, angry that the brunette dared to pull a number like that on her.

“I know we didn’t really grow up in all the same places, but I’m pretty sure that was what you Germans would also refer to a kiss,” Jenny said grinning. And Emma hated how much the brunette was enjoying this.

“Don’t be miss smarty pants with me. You know that’s not what I mean! Why the hell did you do that?”

“You told me to shut you up,” Jenny simply stated, the grin never leaving her face, which was driving Emma more and more insane, and Jenny could see it clearly in the other girl’s eyes.

“I didn’t tell you to kiss me!” Emma looked at Jenny meaningfully, making sure the brunette was aware of how angry she was at her.

“Well then you really should have been more specific on the method.”

“That’s sexual harassment, you know?” Emma pointed out, still incredibly furious and still incredibly disappointed that Jenny’s lips were no longer on hers.

“So sue me!” Jenny suggested with a laugh as she turned around, grabbed a pair of gloves and started to pick up some trash.

“You are unbelievable!” Emma shouted after her. “This is all a game to you. You just do whatever you wanna do in your Jenny world and don’t give a shit about what other people think or feel.”

“You don’t know anything about me!” Jenny defended herself, because she was getting more and more tired of Emma’s insults. Yes, she had done some things she wasn’t necessarily proud of since she came to Cologne, but Emma had no right to make those assumptions about her.

“I know enough to know that I don’t ever wanna have anything to do with you!”

“Fine,” Jenny replied a little more seriously and pointed towards the trash bags. “Grab your gear then and get to work.”

“Fine,” Emma agreed reluctantly. “And don’t you dare kiss me again!”

“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Jenny sighed, although the truth was kissing Emma was all she could dream about these days.

“Or I will sue you!” Emma warned, but Jenny couldn’t help but laugh. That girl was definitely something else.

When Jenny was walking back home after her trash duties, she felt about 50 pounds lighter, even though she had just spent two hours picking up trash and trying to avoid Emma’s gaze. Which had turned out to be a lot more difficult than one would think, because Jenny could swear Emma was staring at her the entire time they were cleaning.

Jenny gently touched her lips and remembered that not that long ago those lips had been on Emma’s and even if it had only lasted a couple of seconds, Jenny couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss. In retrospect, she thought that maybe she shouldn’t have done what she did, maybe it wasn’t fair to Emma, even if the girl was driving her insane every waking second. But back then it had been an impulse, something Jenny couldn’t really help and truth be told, she was almost sure if she had the chance, she would have done everything exactly the same. Because she could swear the taste of Emma’s lips still lingered on hers and Jenny was almost high from it.

When she got to the Bergmann residence, Ben was sitting in the living room watching TV.

“Hey,” She greeted him as she stepped into the living room. “What are you up to tonight?”

“Nothing much, just chillin’’,” He replied, not really paying attention to what he was watching and looking intently at Jenny. “How are you though?” He asked after a moment. “How was trash picking with Emma Muller?” He grinned at her, clearly enjoying the fact that he had something to taunt her about.

“Don’t even ask,” She told him sighing as she started making her way up the stairs.

“That bad, huh?” He nodded his head sympathetically.

“Well it certainly wasn’t good,” She replied as she continued her climb up the stairs and into her room. She sat on her bed and she was slowly starting to feel the exhaustion. And her thoughts immediately went to the reason she was so exhausted and to the two hours she had spent with Emma in almost complete silence. God that girl infuriated her. Her holier than thou attitude, like she was better than everyone else, her constant whining about things, her almost perfect school record, like she could never mess up… Jenny hated girls like that, she used to make fun of girls like that. In her old life she wouldn’t give girls like Emma time of the day, but Emma was different… And Jenny couldn’t for the love of God figure out why she let Emma Muller bother her so much. Why she felt this desperate need to always fight with her, to contradict everything Emma had to say. Sure, Jenny realized she had never been the easiest person to be around, but this thing with Emma was driving her crazy. One moment she wanted to scream at the blonde and a second later she wanted to pin her against the wall and kiss the crap out of her. Jenny Hartmann had never been more frustrated in her entire life and she was pretty sure she really really hated that feeling.

“She is the most annoying, aggravating, exasperating, infuriating, irritating girl… no, scratch that, person that I have ever met in my entire life!” Emma ranted as she and Luzi were getting ready for a rehearsal.

“You mean Jenny?”

“Of course I mean Jenny! Who else has been making my life miserable in the last couple of weeks?” Emma looked at Luzi meaningfully. “It’s bad enough that I had to spend two hours with her today picking up trash, but I have to see her again tomorrow to work on that stupid report!  I don’t know how I’m going to go through that. Every time I look at her, I wanna scream… And the things she does just to mess with me…” Emma thought back to her earlier kiss with Jenny. “I hate her!”

“And what is it that she did that got you so worked up?” Luzi asked a little curious, studying Emma’s face carefully. Even though she said she hated Jenny, her eyes kept saying completely different thing.

“She kissed me!” Emma complained and Luzi almost dropped the drink she was holding.

“She did what?”

“She kissed me!” Emma repeated, getting more and more angry about the kiss. “Can you believe that?! The nerve of that girl! I mean she would do anything just to make me crazy!”

“And are you sure this is the only reason she kissed you? To make you crazy?” Luzi asked, somewhat amused by her friend’s quandary.

“Of course it is!” Emma insisted. “Why else would she kiss me?”

“I don’t know,” Luzi pretended to think about it for a while. “Why do people kiss each other?” She paused for a moment and looked at Emma meaningfully. “Maybe she likes you?”

“What?” Emma laughed at the ridiculousness of that statement. “Are you out of your freakin’ mind? What the hell have you been sniffing?” Emma looked at her friend with reproach. “The only reason Jenny Hartmann kissed me was to mess with my head!”

“Well looks like she succeeded,” Luzi pointed out to a still agitated Emma.

“I mean what kind of a person does that?” Emma asked after a moment. “What kind of a person just kisses someone to fuck with their head? It is beyond annoying how snide and  spiteful that girl can be! I can’t stand her and how dare she kiss me!”

“Emma?” Luzi interrupted her friend’s rant.

“What?”

“Let me ask you a question?”

“Shoot.”

“Why exactly are you so mad at Jenny? Is it because she kissed you or because you liked the kiss?”

“Oh don’t be ridiculous!” Emma rebuked her friend. “I didn’t…. I don’t…” She tried to say something, but she soon realized that she didn’t know how to answer Luzi’s question.
