on the subject of mix tapes and other things

on a side note, i haven't consumed this much restaurant pizza since high school. gah, this is disgusting, this neither here nor there life i've been leading. by saturday though i will have cooking materials and i'll make myself something approaching healthy.

anyways.

i got to thinking about mix tapes because of this from salon: http://www.salon.com/ent/music/feature/2005/05/28/mixtape/index.html
from some point in the 6th grade, after i got my first cd player i looooved making mix tapes. at first though i didn't do it with cds; i taped only off the radio. the tapes from that time period are god-awful. often times you'll hear where i was lucky enough to get to a song in its beginning but usually it's at least a few bars to one chorus into a song. and there's many other times where i forgot i was recording and the tape keeps going...through a few more songs, through commericals, through me switching through stations. for some reason i never thought to go back and tape over all that. most of the music i taped is now terrible; whatever was popular at the time. other stuff gets repeated on different or even the same tapes, just because i forgot i had already gotten it. most mix tapes never had themes, until i started building a considerable cd collection. and initially those themes were the songs i like best off the ten cds i own. there's at least two whole tapes that figure in no doubt's "tragic kingdom" prominently. the last few tapes were things i made for my car; the last thing i ever recorded on a tape actually wasn't a mix tape, it was radio coverage of september 11th. morbid, probably, but i didn't have anything else to do that night considering all other media was rife with news. so i recorded a whole side of a tape of it; i haven't listened to it since. i've obviously made some cd mixes but they've never been nearly as odd as the tape ones. they're usually songs i liked at the time and had downloaded. some were for people and were collections of specific artists (more than one person got a barenaked ladies cd). i just started making playlists (yah, just now...) but they're not that great. i've picked pretty generic themes like "sleep" (any song that has a reference to sleeping, dreaming, nighttime, morning and trying desperately to follow from going to sleep to waking up) and name, place, # (any song with a name, place or number in the title).

so yes, now i'm done rambling about me. i haven't made a good mix tape in awhile. could someone make a suggestion for one...or a theme for one? i think it'd be fun.

and this i've been trying to get a response from for awhile, but as it's random, i've got nothing yet. but it's def cool to look through: http://tinymixtapes.com/amg/

daily, music
